Growing up on traditional country, like Lefty Frizzell, inspired me to trace my music lineage. Lefty’s contributions set a standard for what good country music sounds like. Our goal with this record is to celebrate the songs as Lefty laid them down. We used old gear and recorded as close to their original form as possible. Why is my baby screaming? The answer may just... be: Because they can. As newborns, babies rely heavily on a limited vocal repertoire of cries, coos, and gurgles. But as they begin approaching six months, they begin to experiment with a whole new array of sounds. We call this vocal play. Put simply, it’s a process through which infants experiment with their voices (and mouths) and begin learning to mimic many of the component sounds that will later make up their formal speech. This includes most any sound that can be made with the mouth, from screams, to growls, to blowing raspberries. Check out this little guy as he delights in his newly discovered screech. He’s not in distress, as his broad smile lets us know. Instead he’s just trying out the cool new trick he can do with his mouth.
