Tezos (Tezos) builds the upgrade path into the protocol itself. A delegate proposes an amendment by submitting the hash of its source code. Five automatically scheduled periods follow: Proposal, Exploration, Cooldown, Promotion, and Adoption, mixing votes with time to test and prepare. Delegates vote Yea, Nay, or Pass, with voting power equal to the tezos:native staked with them plus what delegators have handed over, so the largest staking balances carry the most weight. When Adoption ends, the mainnet enables the new protocol on its own and a fresh Proposal period opens.
