George Lucas added to the Death Star battle for the Special Edition of A New Hope, ironically, actually look inferior to the original shots, and blend less seamlessly with the footage of live actors. Is this true? You could say it's subjective, but let's take a look anyway. Compare these two versions of the iconic shot(s) of the Rebel starfighters gathered in formation on approach to the Death Star. The Special Edition is on the left and the original version is on the right. Is the Special Edition version actually so incredibly ugly? Is it actually less credible than the original version? Is it actually less dramatically effective? The answer to all these questions, I think, is clearly no. It is obvious why Lucas was not satisfied with the effects in the original pair of shots, and it is obvious that the new (combined) shot is closer to the image he had in his head in 1977. Anyone who tries to tell you the original shots do not look jarringly dated (which is not the case for many of the shots in this sequence, which were not replaced) is not engaging rationally. I got the notification and froze. It didn’t register... what I was clicking on. And then the second I did a head count up to 7, I burst into tears. And then I did not stop crying until about an hour ago. What surprised me was that I didn’t realise that I was still holding my breath. I didn’t know. I thought I felt that release when I saw them all on June 13th and then again on June 21st when yoongi posted on weverse. I was wrong. Because apparently, I was still only half relieved. Only half breathing. There was a part of me that was still aching, still incomplete. It’s occurring to me right now that I’ve just been brushing it off, the feeling that there was still a weight on my chest. All it took was to see 7 together on that live and the wind got knocked right out of my lungs. And everything broke. I broke. That heaviness on my chest vanished. You might call it an overreaction. Maybe it is. I don’t know. But hearing them all together, their laughter, seeing their faces, seeing yoongi— my heart genuinely felt like it was broken and put back together. It’s crazy how much I love them. How much they mean to me. Can’t believe this is it. We made it. This is what it was all for. I watched Robot on the Road and honestly I... did not really know what to expect going in At the beginning it just feels like a pretty normal little road trip setup with this robot hitchhiking around Japan and it almost gives off a chill slice of life vibe But it does not stay like that for long The more it goes on the more you realize the robot is doing some really questionable stuff and the way it focuses on women without their consent makes the whole thing feel really uncomfortable By the end I was not really sure if I was supposed to find it funny or just feel weird about it Overall it feels like one of those shorts that tries to mix dark humor with awkward situations but it mostly just ends up being unsettlingshow more
