I learned this the hard way: do NOT use... SwiftUI if you want your app to look and feel amazing. At least when coding with AI. (sorry, Apple colleagues reading this 😅) I'm sharing my process vibe coding this calorie tracker. I get a lot of questions about the fluid transition in the video. Here's the whole story. Initially, Claude built the grid with SwiftUI. It was quick and easy, and looked good! But the transition to the day view was a boring navigation push/pop. No fun. I wanted something custom. I asked Claude to make it a fluid transition that remaps the food tiles from their source to destination positions. All hell broke loose. Claude tried a bunch of horrible things. Initially it used matched geometry effects, which worked OK but didn't lend themselves well to gesture-driven animations. So it resorted to SwiftUI preference keys + geometry readers to figure out the source and destination positions and calculate the interpolated position based on gesture progress, coordinating across grid and day views. But this meant it had to write a custom layout because it couldn't reposition tiles inside the native SwiftUI grid. And it had to do an awkward handoff between views, which always created ugly pops or jumps. And don't get me started on trying to put it on a bouncy spring, that only made the math 10x buggier. Fortunately, Claude Fable was smart enough to see that this was becoming a disaster (and discover most of the issues itself, in the simulator), so it pivoted away from SwiftUI. Opus might not be so wise, so you'll have to pay attention and intervene. Ultimately, it rewrote it in plain UIKit and everything turned out great. After that, we moved from 2D images to 3D assets, which introduced a new set of performance challenges and yet another rewrite to a single Metal layer, which is what you see below. I can write more about the 2D-to-3D saga if anyone's interested. If I were to do it again, I'd just say "Don't use SwiftUI" from the very first prompt, and save a few hours of headaches. SwiftUI can be amazing for a human iterating directly in code. But agents don't benefit from any of its advantages. Plus, agents have seen decades of UIKit training data, so they're great at writing it, and it's far more flexible. Here's hoping we see more agent-friendly iterations of SwiftUI in the future. Till then, I'm probably going to avoid it.show more

For the past few weeks I’ve been teaching 50+... kids how to create their own games with AI. The results have been incredible 🤯 I started with my 5 y/o nephew because I was worried about him spending hours doomscrolling and consuming brainrot content. He built his first game using v0, though I had to walk him through each step. Watching kids interact with these tools taught me so much about how they think, where they get stuck, and what keeps them motivated. The moment that really struck me came right after he finished that first game. Every time I saw him afterward, he’d run up and ask, “Did you bring your laptop so I can keep playing?”. For him, “playing” meant creating. That kind of excitement is organic pull. Don’t get me wrong, I love v0 and Lovable. They’re insanely powerful. Their UIs just aren’t designed for kids, and that’s totally fine. Kids still need guidance, structure, and a bit of tutoring to turn ideas into something playable. I’m seeing tech leaders push in this direction too, and I think there’s a real opportunity here (Matias Woloski Thomas Wolf). Kids are the future, and I don’t want to live in a world where they spend precious time consuming instead of creating. That’s why I love tools like v0, Lovable, wabi , Cursor . They’re empowering more people to become creators. I want that same feeling for kids. What Guillermo is saying is real. Kids need to be AI-literate from the outset. It honestly makes me sad to think about my nephew growing up and falling behind on AI and everything happening around him because he’s stuck in Roblox or TikTok. That’s why I built Rabbit 🐰 for him. It started as a simple prototype, but somehow I ended up talking with 200+ parents and kids, tech leaders, investors, and people I never imagined meeting around the world. Rabbit now has 100+ people on the waitlist, and 10 kids are using it two to three times per week on average to create their own games 🫡 I’m not sure yet if this will become my full-time project, but I deeply care about it. Build motivation and joy by watching others do it and building proof elements that it can really be done in your mind. Break the barriers and limits Movies are good for this, I like edits for this exact reason because yes it can lead you to doom scrolling but also it can be so so valuable in making you see that goal, want it even more and go for it. I personally really like war dogs, lord of war, limitless, and probably a lot more I’m forgetting. But you get the idea. So moving, it reminded me how Teaching is, easily, the most importantly IMPACTFUL profession for national development. Indeed, the difference between the so-called First World and the rest is not how high buildings rose to the skies but how much of deliberate investments went into Education and Healthcare. Officially moving on from Tech game after I get... this thought off my chest. I more than welcome anyone smarter than me in regards to the football to chime in. I truly, truly, truly cannot wrap my head around the thought process here. These two plays I'm sure anyone with brain can agree officially sealed KU's slim chances in having a chance to win this game. The play calling to me seems like completely flipped in logic at best? First one, you are down 4, on your own 30 so you are not going to go for this. Ignoring that we were getting dominated in the trenches in this game and that the 'obvious' play is a run, I don't get why we make the decision in a must get spot to take the ball out of our QB's (who at the time was rolling) hands. Jalon Daniels is our best player. In an absolute must get/need, we should be relying on him to make a play. Then the second one. I obviously don't know the answer here, but I feel somewhat confident that the reason we didn't run here was because of how the earlier 3rd & 1 run went. While I don't necessarily agree with the premise of decision making on this alone, I can appreciate the recognition that we are going to struggle to gain a yard in an obvious run situation. But the thing is, we are in go for it range so the one thing you absolutely cannot have is a massive negative play. Literally anything else is okay (obviously not a turnover). I truly don't think there's a good chance we run the ball on this attempt and get a yard. But THIS situation gives you a free shot at it if you want to take it. I think this play call would have worked if we didn't let their best player run at our qb freely but I'd just argue this play had a ton of potential risk that wasn't necessary. Hell even a play action pass out of out shot gun or something rolling JD out to the left would have given us a good shot at first down with an escape route to bail out on the play if something went wrong. I'm once again for the millionth time saying I know and understand that this entire staff knows more about football in their pinky than I do. But I do think the game has evolved and game + clock management doesn't really require football knowledge/have a direct correlation to one's football knowledge. It's not as simple as ESPN's graphic says GO so you should go etc, there are variables and human behavior etc to deal with and I understand that. But we are just getting these situations downright wrong. We are flipping a coin that has a 20 pound weight attached to the heads side and calling tails almost every single time. S/O anyone who read all this but would just love some insight if there's anyone who disagrees and is a lot smarter than I!show more
