Why does my cat stalk towards me as though... I am prey? I only caught the tail end of this occurrence in the video, but about once a week I notice my cat (5 months) stalking towards me like this (she typically starts from much farther away and goes even slower). The weirdest part to me is that she only really does it towards me, not my husband. I’ve also seen her stalk prey before and she doesn’t usually continuously move in slow motion like this, she typically walks forward, pauses and assesses for a while, and then goes for the kill. Usually when she does this to me, she ends up snapping out of it due to movement or sound elsewhere, so she’s never pounced or anything - at most she jumps up next to me and then goes back to normal. I’m a new cat owner so this may be typical behavior, but it is so bizarre to me that this behavior seems reserved for me alone - not my husband, not our dog who she loves wrestling with (thanks reddit for clearing that up), and not the bugs she preys on. The human loaded us into the van just before... 6 this morning. That's ridiculously early for her unless it's a dog Show weekend, which it isn't. Turns out she and the spare human had decided since it's been so hot out, they'd take us to a big off leash area really early in the morning. We don't typically go to many dog parks so we can avoid dogs that might be pushy or rude. And not just to baby rottie Kenji and I! Also our human. You'd be amazed how many dogs will chase her wheelchair tires, or jump all over her because she's seated. Some even try to steal her treats because they're easier to reach. But before 7 the park was pretty much empty. Except for us. And a gazillion mosquitoes. It was great though. So much to sniff, and we had a good run. Kenji practiced his recalls and his giant moose calf legs sprinted back every time! There was still dew on the long grass so we came back a little soggy. It was definitely worth getting up early for! It’s been a couple of days since our last... update on Payton’s recovery from pneumonia and cleft palate surgery. Long story short, it hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows. She’s required oxygen - finally got off of that today - and has started crying finally. Before this surgery, she cried twice in her entire life, so that’s been very difficult for us to see because it means something is wrong and upsetting her. She’s required one of us to be by her 24/7 as she’s needed suctioning CONSTANTLY with all the junk coming up and the drool, along with her frequent puking and bowel movements. The antibiotic is absolutely helping with the pneumonia, but it’s destroying her little digestive system. Please be praying that her stomach starts to not upset her as much and she can give her body a bit of rest. The plus side is that she has started sleeping like a champ at night. Previously, if we could get six straight hours of sleep, we viewed that as a really good night. The past several nights, she’s gotten eight or more straight hours to the point where our night nurses have been slightly concerned. 😂 We seem to be turning a corner though, thankfully. We’re hoping that after taking five steps back with this surgery that we can now begin the road forward to taking 20 steps with speech, eating, etc. that comes with a closed palate. And we’re still finding moments of joy like this in the midst of the toughest two weeks we can ever remember. Thank you to everyone who keeps checking in on us, bringing us meals, and praying for us.
