SITREP: Iron Will is being released on his own... recognizance (kinda) for good behavior! Monitoring required. Oxygen levels are staying stable and he’s responding well to all the other treatments. And he’s getting more animated the closer he gets to the front door! Oh, and guess what he is asking for, “when we get home?”… It’s a daunting task, but our goal now is to isolate him from the flu ravaging the rest of our posterity to the extent possible. And to strengthen those little lungs. I can’t adequately express my appreciation for the prayers, thoughts and kind words from all of you. "Yesterday on our way home, we broke down 2... hours away from home... on a busy interstate with three kids in tow. It wasn't exactly ideal, especially with a hungry newborn. I wouldn't get the baby out of his seat to feed him incase we got smacked by another vehicle on the highway, he was the safest in his seat. We called dispatch and AAA and an Alabama State Trooper showed up to help. I thought he was just going to divert traffic away from our lane, but he did so much more than that. He loaded the kids and I in his car and got us off the highway and to the closest rest stop. Sean stayed with the car to wait for the tow truck. He checked the bathroom for 'boogieman so Madeline could use the restroom. He shot illuminating helicopters in the sky with the kids while I made calls to try to get home. Major got really fussy when I was trying to wrangle my other children and calm them down from the evening's happenings. Without hesitation, he took Major out of his seat and gave him the bottle I had prepared from earlier. It seemed like he does that every day, knew how to hold him and when to burp him. Major even filled his pants during his feeding and the trooper laughed and continued feeding him. He then helped unload all our stuff from our car to his and drove our family to the nearest hotel. It was late, nothing was open, and we couldn't get a rental car until the morning. He helped unload our unruly amount of crap into our hotel room, told us where all the rental car places were, gave the girls a hug, and told us to call if we needed anything. So… The good news is Tyler is still with... us. He didn’t eat or drink much overnight but was up and down and fairly bright-eyed this morning. The bad news is he likely won’t overcome his condition barring a miracle. He isn’t stable enough to transport to a clinic and he is in all likelihood past the point of recovery anyway. The vet will be here a bit later to examine him but we are all bracing ourselves for the worst. He wanted to get out of his stall (pushed past as we cleaned it) so he roamed around the front yard for 20 minutes, looked into the living room, stood under a tree for a bit and is now lying down in the cool grass. With small exceptions he can do whatever he wants to today. I just wanted to say that I’m beyond overwhelmed by the support and kindness from everyone throughout this ordeal. Never once did I feel alone and I know Tyler felt it, too. Because of all of you he didn’t die in a grody kill pen, he will head to heaven feeling loved. Like they all deserve. My heart is broken, I know all of yours are too… I will say goodbye for all of you, I promise.show more

My surgery went well yesterday - thank you everyone... for all the kind words and prayers. I know this corner of ours means it when they say it. Lotta pain, but that's to be expected. Now lemme put a smile on your face: We've done this so many times with old shelter dogs, and the pattern is almost always the same - when they get here, they're usually nervous and quiet; unsure of what is in store and what their life is gonna be like. After being here with me, OBX Dog Walker and the rest of the dogs, they start to relax and be the dog they wanna be; the dog they were or could have been before they were abandoned. Molly was so quiet and reserved when we got her, and now? Yeah. She's right at home, letting me know I need to get off my ass and feed her. Love to see it. And I'm grateful to all of you.show more

I genuinely didn’t know what to do with Billy... at the start. I thought it was a step too far when he was roaring crying in stress for days. But this is him today looking spectacular. A lovely kind person paid for his eyes to be fixed in April in an operation. Billy is about 7-8 we think. All being well is new life is only starting. We tried hard to find his backstory but nothing. Next step is more relaxing, then his operation and then a home. For now Billy is very happy and very well. Delighted for the little man (8/8)show more
