I'm struggling to describe how I feel with words... right now I got woken up by a call from a friend at 02:56 in the morning, I decline, and for a second I see in my notifications "bro please for the love of god sell", then I get another call but I pick up - "bro your up 50k on my mother your up 50k" I was shaking for at least 30 minutes, I couldn't believe my eyes, for the first time in my life I felt like I was dreaming and I had to ask my friends if this was reality While I was journaling this moment I also found that in my journal I wrote "I will run my port up to 6 figs" three times in a row, which I think I wrote when I was about to zero out, I was manifesting this moment when it seemed impossible I've never felt like this in my entire life I can now say, that i've hit 6 figs. Every time I take an action I hear the potential criticism in my head… but I do it anyway. The criticism does always come. I get criticism on my body too. I can love myself at any size, but the never ending pressure to please everyone and to try to be so strong people can’t criticize me is tiring. Sometimes I wonder if my problems are really my own. When I’m alone, I only have love for myself without an ounce of shame or self-hatred. I like myself and who I see in the mirror. But hate and criticism can eat away at you. “Are they right?” “Should I really be eating that?” “People will judge me.” I’ve never recognized a negative voice in my mind as mine. I can’t think of one person who would say I’m the negative voice in their head either. But the negative voice in my head has left me suicidal before. I don’t hate myself. But sometimes people treat me like they hate me. It’s hard not to internalize it. Today, I want to remind you- you don’t have to hate yourself even when the world treats you like they hate you. It’s safe to make mistakes. It’s safe to love yourself and your body even when others laugh at you. Today, I’m a year older. Today, I sat down... and genuinely thought about my life. Ada, that slept on a thin rug in a “run down, face me, I slap you” house for years, with over 30 other tenants. Ada, that single handedly became a mother and father, not just to herself, but to her siblings too. Ada, that can now pay rent for a decent place and doesn’t wake up scared every day, wondering if today will be the day the landlord throws our things out and refuses to let us bring them back in. Ada, that doesn’t have to starve anymore so her siblings can have food. Ada, that hasn’t had to borrow money in years. Ada, that fulfilled her promise to her mother by taking care of her babies, who are now my babies. Ada, that finished university with a Second Class Upper while juggling several jobs. I could go on and on about the things I’ve achieved, things I never really allowed myself to feel proud of because I always felt like I wasn’t doing enough. But looking back at where I was four years ago, when I would cry to God because I hated my life, when I thought about taking the easy way out, then thought about my siblings and realised they’d have no one, so I chose to stay… I AM PROUD OF ME. Mistakes and all. I’m nowhere close to all the goals I have for myself, but I am in a much better place. Many have asked why I have been so silent... these past weeks. I'm heartbroken to say my beautiful, darling wife passed away on Thursday. She had held my heart in her hand from the first moment I saw her and we shared 36 wonderful years together. She had bravely battled cancer with courage and fortitude for many years yet still never lost the ability to light up a room with her beautiful smile, her wonderful sense of humour and her laughter. Not once did she give up the hope for life. I truely believe there is more to this existence than we know and that one day we shall be reunited by our love for each other, a love that was so honest and so real and so true. Until then I shall hold her tightly in my heart. When my daughter and I returned home from the hospital a red rose had appeared in our garden. It was right outside our door and had appeared from nowhere in a clump of dry weeds. Red roses were my wife’s favorite flower. She wore 3 in her hair at our wedding and carried a bouquet of red roses. I had asked her to send me a sign before she passed to say she was ok. It must have been sent by her.
