A little-known UEFA rule could damage Chelsea's Champions League... chances. The Blues qualified for the last-16 of the tournament with a 3-2 away win against Napoli on Wednesday night. But they might be forced to give up playing their home leg at Stamford Bridge in the next round in what would be a massive blow, should it come to pass. Instead, Chelsea would have to host the game at a neutral stadium due to one of UEFA's regulations that only allow for one game to be played in a city on any given night. Arsenal and Tottenham finished above Chelsea in the group stage, meaning they take priority for the Tuesday and Wednesday night fixtures on March 17 and 18. The reasoning behind the rule is so that games can be adequately policed without stretching the security too thin. So Chelsea would have to seek special dispensation from UEFA to discard their rule while also getting support from the authorities in London to host the clash. Given that plenty of London football matches are played on the same day at the weekend, that aspect should not be an issue. UEFA say teams cannot play in the same stadium, city or in cities within 30 miles on a matchday.show more

So a lot has been said about Hearts players... being assaulted without any evidence to back it up. Edited footage of the attached video, shows a Celtic fan pushing a Hearts player - I can't distinguish who but others will be able to - however, the edited footage does not tell the full story or context suiting the agendas of those posting it up. The attached video shows the full interaction between the Hearts player and Celtic fan - and here is my take on it along with references to Scots Law after speaking to an acquaintance within the field. The Celtic fan, like others on the pitch, can be charged with Breach of the Peace for simply entering the field of play and the Celtic fan in question will almost certainly face such a charge. However, here is where it gets sticky. He is not breaking the law by simply goading or laughing at the Hearts player and videoing it. Under Scots Law, if someone knocks your phone out of your hand and then proceeds to stamp on it repeatedly - as the Hearts player did - then they can be charged with criminal damage (vandalism under the Criminal Law (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 1995). Under section 52 of the Criminal Law (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 1995, vandalism is committed when someone “wilfully or recklessly” destroys or damages property belonging to another “without reasonable excuse.” A mobile phone clearly falls within “property belonging to another,” and repeatedly stamping on it generally satisfies the “without reasonable excuse” and “wilful or reckless” requirements. It doesn’t matter if the incident happens on public/private property or in this case on a football pitch. The person who stomps on the phone is still potentially facing a charge for vandalism, even if the Celtic fan seen here is committing a breach of the peace by entering the field of play. The breach of the peace charge would be dealt with separately, it doesn’t erase the Hearts player's criminal responsibility for trying to destroy the fan's property. The Celtic fan is then seen pushing the footballer away in order to stop them from destroying their phone/property and attempts to recover it before stewards pounce on him, that push may amount to lawful self-defence or defence of property if it's proportionate and immediate, which in this case seems to be the case. Under Scots law, force is allowed if there’s an imminent threat, that the force is necessary, and it’s not excessive. A brief, measured push to create distance or break contact is usually treated as reasonable, not criminal assault. The Hearts player fell into this category when he initially swatted the phone out of the fan's hand and so too did the fan by pushing the Hearts player away in an attempt to retrieve his property. But as soon as the Hearts player started stamping on the phone that is deemed excessive force. Legally, the fan's breach of the peace [invasion of the pitch and goading] doesn’t give the Hearts player a licence to destroy the fan's property; and the fan's efforts to protect his own property can be deemed lawful, as long as the force used is proportionate and immediate. And yet, given the nature of the pitch invasion and the media coverage of it - the Hearts player could ultimately dodge any charge not because he is not guilty of committing a crime, but because the COPFS apply the 'public interest' test - even if evidence exists, they may conclude that prosecution is not in the public interest because of factors such as: 1. The relatively low value of the phone vs wider consequences (a star player, media circus, club reputation) 2. The player’s status and the likely impact on the sport or club 3. Whether alternative measures (internal club sanctions, fines, apologies, civil settlement) are seen as “sufficient.” Prosecutors are not obliged to prosecute every technically guilty act. As for the fan, as mentioned earlier, his entry onto the pitch is deemed a Breach of the Peace and he would be charged, fined, and issued with a football banning order - with Celtic also potentially banning him for x number of years. Ps/ Much of this was told to me verbatim and I have put it into my own words as much as I can. What a series. That’s what playoff hockey is all... about. About as evenly matched as you’ll ever see. To win the hardest championship in sports, you need health and a little puck luck. The Bolts battled the health part all season long, but did not have the puck luck this series. That’s not to take anything away from Montreal. They finished with the same points. The amount of sticks they got in the way of passes this series was clinical. They got one more bounce than the Bolts. That’s playoff hockey. Congrats to the Habs on the series win. The inability to win home playoff games and not making it out of the first round has, unfortunately, become numbing. That’s not the worst thing in the world. That means we have lofty expectations. I’ll miss the routine of game days and seeing so many friends who feel more like family. But, we’ll be back in a few short months. And I’ll be counting the days until we are. I am excited to see our parents, brothers, and... sisters who are returning home from South Africa receiving the meals I organized for them at the Beitbridge border. These wonderful people have spent a long day without a proper meal, and my heart remains heavy knowing that there are still others on different buses who have not yet received food. On the same note, most of our buses will be arriving in Malawi tomorrow, and we will continue loading more buses to help ensure that our people return home safely. Former Premier League star Shay Given has been condemned... by viewers for describing Wilfried Nancy's managerial stint at Celtic as 'an absolute Holocaust', live on the BBC. The extraordinary and offensive word selection from the 49-year-old ex-goalkeeper was broadcast during his punditry duty on Final Score on Saturday. Nancy's disastrous tenure in Glasgow lasted 33 days before he was sacked and Given described it as 'a absolute Holocaust' - which was the genocide of six million European Jews by Nazi Germany and collaborators in World War II. Presenter Jason Mohammad ignored the word choice from his colleague at the time but later apologised on the broadcast. It happened when Mohammed asked Given: 'What have you made of what's gone on at Celtic, Wilfied Nancy going after the defeat against Rangers, awful in the second half? Given replied: 'Nancy was terrible from start to finish, I don't think they should have ended Martin's (O'Neill's) short tenure at the start. It was the week leading up to the Hearts game, top of the league clash, then Roma in the Europa League and St Mirren in the League Cup final, I thought Martin should have been given that week at least. 4 separate handball incidents Connor Barron- • Gets the... ball hit at him and accidentally hits his arm while his body is turned • The ref doesn’t see it • Nobody claims it and the game plays on • There’s another 2 phases of play, including Aberdeen TOUCHING the ball • VAR pull it all the way back to disallow the goal Lawrence Shankland- • Intentionally controls the ball with his arm • Hearts go up the park and score • Shankland barely celebrates and openly says “it’s a handball” about 5 times • VAR “check” it and allow the goal • Then Shankland celebrates it Gogic and Trusty handballs- • After getting a penalty vs Celtic for Sterling’s “handball” they set the bar that anything going on target, hand away from the body, accidental or not, it’s a penalty. Also the fact Dundee conceded a penalty for a handball offence with a pass going away from goal the same day 😂 The ONLY thing that’s the same in all these incidents is they benefit any team up against Rangers. Dermot Desmond making an ultra rare appearance at Celtic... Park tonight for the Dundee game. Looking every part the Wacky Races villain, Dick Dastardly, I'd suggest that this was a show of strength, asserting his authority after the Brendan Rodgers episode. The only thing missing was him twiddling his moustache in a menacing manner. Interestingly (at least, to me) he made his fellow Executive members wait until all the players had ran up the tunnel before they made their way to the Boardroom. Usually, it's a case of sprinting from their padded seats as soon as the whistle blows...or, if you're Rod Stewart, sprinting up ten minutes beforehand to have first dibs at all the freebie hospitality on offer. For those who don’t like Blockie, I’ve got one... for you that might change your mind: At the 2023 PGA where his life exploded, I followed him for ESPN in the final round (the one where he made the hole-in-one) and had the chance to speak to him on Sunday prior to the round when he was paired with Rory. Both he and his lovely wife Val gave me almost 20 minutes of their time and were so open and honest and offfered so many amazing stories I used on the air. No other person who was in his position with everything on the line would’ve done that. Nobody. I have also had him (and his son Dylan) on my podcast for Silver Club Golfing Society soon after that PGA and I didn’t have to jump through any hoops with his agent or anything. I even played a practice round with him at the ‘25 PGA Professional Championship and he couldn’t have been nicer. We all want athletes to speak their mind and let us in, and when they open up and say what’s on their mind they get ripped by social media. I don’t see the reason for the haters. My experience last have been nothing but 100% positive. Blockie is a star in my book.show more

This family was at the beach. They got there... early and set up in front so they could watch their kids play in the water. Then this family shows up and they set up in front of them. 🤯 There was no one to the left or the right of them. Clear as could be. 😳 A lot of people said they should have moved closer so no one could set up in front of them. But many others said if the beach was open and there was no one to the left or right of them then that is just plain rude. I always leave a little sand in front in case my kids want to play or we usually throw our boogie boards in front. I’d have been irritated and would have asked them to move. 💯 What do you think? You cannot even dare to vote for APC in the Southeast because you will be seen as an enemy and treated like one. People stand around the thumb printing booths to ensure you are voting for Peter Obi. The Igbos were ruthless in 2023. In Lagos, there was an urge and desire to win at all costs, so there was a massive push that saw many Igbo INEC officials deployed to the state. This gave the Labour Party access to election sensitive materials like ballot booklets. Even if they could not win the election, they just wanted to win Lagos to stamp their claim that “Lagos is a no man’s land.”show more

I have not seen enough about the decision from... Mike Vrabel and Tim Kelly to go for 2 down by 8 last night. Here’s why I loved it: 1) NFL teams this season have been successful on 55% of two-point conversion attempts. The odds were in the Titans’ favor. 2) Will Levis was dealing in the 2nd half. 3) Titans still had all three timeouts and the two-minute warning. 4) Miami struggled to move the ball on offense all night. Their three scoring drives went for 12, 7, and 59 yards. 5) If successful on the two-point conversion, a stop on defense and a TD wins the game. If unsuccessful, you can still send it to OT. 6) Titans offense marched down the field, scored the TD to make it a one possession game and essentially told Miami, “we are going for two because we know you cannot stop us right now.” The odds are in your favor. It’s a good mathematical decision. You want to psych out an opposing offense? Give them the ball knowing they need to run the clock out, or you are going to have a chance to WIN the game, not send it to overtime. They saw what your offense just did to their defense. They saw your QB on the sideline screaming and hyping everyone up. Cutting the lead to six put WAY more pressure on the Dolphins offense. You want to hype up your defense? Put them back on the field knowing your offense just did their job. Put them back on the field knowing a stop and a TD wins it. At that point, they aren’t in the mindset of “we need a stop to have a chance to go to OT.” They are thinking, “let’s go out here, get a stop, and give our offense a chance to WIN.” There’s a fundamental difference in playing to WIN and playing NOT to LOSE. This was a decision by a coaching staff that was playing to WIN. Brilliant game by Vrabel and Kelly. Brilliant execution late in the game by the offense and the defense.
