This is how far science has come Mice can... be engineered so that shining a light activates a very specific subset of neurons Shining the light in this case induces a 'wet dog shake' - a behaviour shared by many hairy mammals, from mice to bears This is called optogenetics - and that's how we know the precise neural pathway that explains how wet dogs shake Zhang et al in Science:show more

Who would like to inform this halfwit Prime Minister... that solar panels only work during the day. And that’s only if the sun is shining. How can someone do stupid be running a country? Seriously, how?????show more

Keep seeking the light. I know it can be... hard, but a light exists in all of us. Even in dark times, we must believe that there is goodness, that the light will come again. Even the act of believing, the act of seeing the light in others, is a way of having hope and moving humanity forward. #sundaypaperreflectionshow more

I don't specifically recall EVER seeing the eyewall features... of any tropical cyclone appearing to be *flashing* like a strobe light like this! The speed of rotation within the eyewall is so fast that each time the satellite image updates, each eyewall feature is in a totally different place, and this gives us the strobe light effect. This is truly awe-inspiring to witness. This is pushing the physical limits of how strong a storm can possibly get on the face of this planet.show more

THE SICK LEECHES THAT WE ARE!!! 🤢 Disgusting and... absolutely pathetic! 🤮 How actress Nidi Agarwal was mobbed by so called ‘fans’ after a film event….is a reflection of how rotten we are as a society! I feel really sorry for her and I hope she is okay! Women in this country are subjected to mobbing / molestation at various levels- from buses to temples to movies. Very few women are lucky enough to escape this absolutely disgusting behaviour. Actresses are unfortunately considered public property. Yes! That is how cheap we are. I hope the organizers/ Nidi Agarwal’s team identifies these leeches and files a police complaint against how many ever disgusting creatures as possible. Also - I am not sure if they will be prosecuted. But a fear needs to start somewhere. This disgusting filth, the sorry excuse of men should know that they won’t get away with such behaviour. Someone needs to teach them a lesson.show more

This is the reality. People in LA have become... so used to dogs suffering on the streets (in this case, tied up with a piece of wood over him) that people like the person in the grey T-shirt just walk by. No questions asked, no looking for help. Just walking by. And, frankly, how can we blame this person when horrors like this are ALL over Los Angeles. We should not be numb to this. We should see this and think "well, this doesn't seem normal". But that's what the animal crisis has done to Los Angeles. It has made images like this all too familiar.show more

This is not a Chinese family going on vacation... with their dog. This is a dog likely bought from a wet market for meat. They have tied the poor animal to the back of their car and are driving on the highway as if he is just luggage. He has no idea what is waiting for him. That is what makes this so heartbreaking. This dog is still alive, still trusting, still innocent — and yet he is being treated with no care, no mercy, and no dignity. Dog meat eating is still a cruel reality in parts of China. Many of these dogs are stolen pets or helpless strays. No dog deserves this fate. Dogs are companions. They are not food.show more
