We’ve just crossed one million miles driven on OpenVPP.... Behind that number is a growing network of almost 400 users with their vehicles, recording trips and energy usage on-chain every day. This is our first 1M mile achievement on the road to the 10T miles driven globally every year. The Internet of Energy is being built in real time by each of you and we’re still early. $OVPP |show more

Did you know that babies cry with an accent?... This week I’ll be focusing on language acquisition during infancy. Yesterday we talked about how newborns enter the world already recognizing the distinct tones of their mothers’ voices, as well as the rhythms and patterns of what will become their native language. And that recognition is not only receptive (the language we hear and understand), but expressive (the language we speak). Which leads us to crying with accent. A study that compared the cries of French and German infants identified distinct patterns their cries - measured as early as the day after their births - that mirror the unique melodies (or prosody) of their native languages. The French infants ended their cries with a lilt that mirrored French, while German infants began their cries with intensity then dropped off at the end, mirroring the vocalizations of their German parents. It’s still more evidence that some basic forms of language learning are influenced by children’s experience (learning) in utero. When it comes to our earliest vocalizations, newborns rely heavily on cries - which often tend to be a bit screechier than they will become in time - alongside gurgles, grunts and squeaks (like those shown in the video here.) But in just a matter of weeks these basic sounds make way for a much broader array of vocalizations. We’ll look at a few of those tomorrow. This new arrival was shared to TT byshow more

Turkish Man Takes DNA Test, Realizes He’s Not Turkish... But 64.9% Armenian, 26.2% Georgian & 5.1% South Italian ➖➖➖ A video has gone viral on social media showing a Turkish man reacting in disbelief after discovering through his ancestry DNA test results that he is not Turkish but 64.9% Armenian, 26.2% Georgian, 5.1% South Italian, and 2.2% Greek/Albanian, with traces of Persian and Kurdish ancestry. In disbelief, he says, “What? What do you mean? No Turkish at all? 0 out of 100… I can’t believe it! Nothing, nothing at all!” — originally believing he was 100% from Trabzon on both sides. The video, like many others, has continued to spark discussion online, highlighting the deep ethnic diversity that exists within Turkey despite the country’s long-standing emphasis on a singular national identity. While DNA-based ancestry kits have exploded in popularity globally, in Turkey the direct-to-consumer ancestry DNA kits are effectively banned or heavily regulated, with citizens often forced to rely on foreign laboratories or legal intermediaries to obtain testing, according to Hellenic Daily News. The government’s restrictions stem from long-standing sensitivities around ethnicity and national identity. Turkey’s modern population descends from a complex blend of Anatolian, Caucasian, and Balkan peoples, yet official narratives have historically emphasized a singular “Turkish” identity. Viral stories like this one challenge that notion and highlight the region’s diverse ancestral roots, including significant Armenian and Georgian heritage often obscured by decades of assimilation policies.show more

🇺🇸🔥Amid the devastation left behind by the #CottonwoodFire in... Beaver County, one sight stopped a crew working on the mountain in their tracks. A viewer shared this video after her husband and a co-worker found a small patch of trees where everything around it had burned, right up to an American flag. The flag was still standing, untouched. Whether you see it as a symbol of hope, resilience or simply one of those remarkable moments nature sometimes leaves behind, it's an incredible sight in the middle of so much loss, especially as we approach Independence Day during America's 250th anniversary celebration. I totally get the sentiment that Cavan needs to... play more, given the situation (with his departure to Europe somewhat imminent). However, I don’t know that a game in Trinidad and Tobago, especially while already up by a comfortable margin, is the best situation for him to come on. You can’t control tackles like these, but it doesn’t feel like the best environment for him to stay healthy and continue to grow. #doop #MLS #USYMNT #USMNT 📹: CONCACAFshow more

Some of my colleagues and friends, especially from Mumbai... and southern parts of India, ask me why I honk so frequently while overtaking or at crossroads The driving style in the northern parts of India, especially in Uttar Pradesh, is unique. They value their convenience over their lives, often neglecting to look around before switching lanes or making turns. They believe that if someone is crossing, they’ll simply honk to let them know. This mentality contributes to the high fatality rate on highways in Uttar Pradesh After driving on these roads for around 14 years, I’ve developed the habit of honking while passing trucks and buses, ensuring a margin of braking distance for sudden maneuvers by riders spitting paan, cattle appearing out of nowhere, people crossing without looking and of course, wrong-way driving Notice the timestamps between the two clips - such incidents occurred twice in five minutes during a 6 hour drive. If I were to compile all these instances, it would be like watching a short movie Though the speed may appear slow in the video, it was mostly around 100 km/hr. However, I had to brake heavily, hence the frustration with prolonged honking Some people might comment, ‘You shouldn’t overtake from the left.’ However, there’s another unsaid rule here - most trucks drive on the rightmost lane.show more

Two years ago, MeekMill stood beside Governor Josh Shapiro... as Act 44 was signed into law. The passage of that bill represented a major milestone for REFORM Alliance and the culmination of five years of tireless effort. Today, the results are undeniable: Act 44 is working. Act 44 creates a fairer and more effective probation system, helping Pennsylvanians by: - Replacing one-size-fits-none probation conditions with an individualized approach that prioritizes rehabilitation and public safety - Limiting when someone can be sent to prison for a technical violation, and for how long - Streamlining the early termination process and creating evidence-based guardrails on the length of probation sentences - Incentivizing positive behaviors, personal growth, and rehabilitation through a credits system that accelerates opportunities for early termination Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth are benefiting from Act 44 and we’re so proud of the time and effort invested by our team and local partners to make Act 44 a reality. BRITAIN WAS ALREADY USING STABILIZED TANK GUNS IN KOREA... IN 1952 This is a British Centurion showing off its gun stabilisation while moving, basically keeping the gun trained on target even as the tank is bouncing around. And they’re firing ridiculously fast too, about one round every three seconds in this footage. The Centurion was one of Britain’s big post-war tanks, and British units were using them around the Imjin River in Korea. For a tank from the early 50s, watching that gun stay on target while the whole thing is moving is honestly pretty wild. British tank tech was getting seriously advanced for its time.show more
