Time has stooped her back, slowed her steps, and... placed a cane in her hands... yet it forgot the little girl she still carries within. An elderly lady walks slowly, while ahead of her, her shadow tells a completely different story: it does not follow the cane, knows no fatigue, and does not count the years. It wears pigtails and skips along carefreely, just as it did when the world was vast and it took so little to be happy. "We grow old on the outside long before we do on the inside!" "Years count our steps; memories preserve the ones we took while running." "Childhood ends on the calendar, not necessarily in the soul." "Time changes our bodies, but it cannot always convince our hearts of our age." My husband and I decided to open our hearts... to a 10-and-a-half-year-old dog. We weren't looking to adopt another dog, but when we learned that she had spent three months at the shelter without a single visitor or adoption inquiry, we couldn't bear the thought of her growing old and passing away alone. Although she wasn't with a rescue organization, her story was shared widely throughout the animal rescue community. She was incredibly gentle and sweet, and the shelter volunteers adored her. They loved her so much that they often let her spend time with them in the office instead of leaving her alone in her kennel. The day after we heard about her, we went to meet her. The moment we saw her, we knew we couldn't walk away. When we brought her home, she was covered in ticks. Helping her recover wasn't easy. We made countless trips to the veterinarian, patiently tried different treatments, and devoted a great deal of time to her care. There were moments when it felt overwhelming, but we never regretted our decision. All we wanted was for her to spend the rest of her life surrounded by love. In the end, we received the greatest gift of all. She stayed with us for three more wonderful years before peacefully passing away at 13 and a half years old, an impressive age for a dog. She brought so much joy into our family and will always hold a special place in our hearts. Senior dogs may not have as much time left, but they deserve love, care, and a real home just as much as any other dog. 🐾❤️ 📹treatsnatchershow more
