The convergence is true and real and accelerating. 2. Most corporate jobs suck ass. 40 years at a desk working on the same thing? Pure dystopia. We need fluid movement between passions, projects, people. DAOs are a massive step in that direction, but now AI is giving individuals the means to spin up their own massive businesses… there’s also this notion floating around that we can launch a product or contribute to a protocol or a DAO in a way that sets us up for life rather than slaving for decades at the golden teat of a paycheck. It's a massive win for human flourishing, passion and excitement. 3. oRaNgE cOIn. Bitcoin came up far more than I thought it would. Even $ETH ICO buyers/gigawhales talked about how bullish they are on it. The question is no longer whether $BTC will survive but rather how much exposure you should have. I've been working in silence for quite a while... now. Tbh, I don't really even know where to start, so cue the rambling and ranting. Regardless of which side of the fence you sit on, no one can argue the past few years haven't been politically and economically wild. For crypto as a whole it feels like a never ending game of tug of war. A lot of X content has become toxic, so I just largely am not interacting these days. But I read, I read a lot of it. I think we like to forget history a bit in this community. $PLS launched off the highs, and the SEC swooped in right after. Very few people want to admit it, but it shook confidence immediately. I mean no other crypto project has survived such a thing at the time. But #PLS $PLSX and $HEX did. However, winning doesn't unshake that confidence. And RH during and after that event took social precautions to protect himself and his creations. Thing is, the guy isn't stupid. Someone once asked me if I thought certain aspects of the launch we rushed because he knew it was coming? And honestly, maybe. I'd attribute at least a non-zero probability to it. And If that were the case, im glad it was rushed. That case may have gone differently otherwise. Do I still think #PulseChain, #HEX, etc... all have futures? Yes. RH has had the opportunity to just straight up bounce from all of this. Why hasn't he? You could point to exhibit A, B, C, D, etc... of how he's likely got the funds to do that and we all could relatively do nothing about it. So why is he still around? I think it's pretty simple. The usual answer, he wants to win. It's in his twitter handle for Christs sakes. We view this as tribalism, but it's important to note that makes all of us in the #PulseChain camp universally. So these day I find myself relatively pDAI neutral. If you guys want to send it to $1 do it. Only whales can stop you, they run out eventually. (insert super strong this is NOT financial advice). Hell you can maybe even use Sigma to help? Or maybe it wont help, idk. Depends on how people use the software. Conversely, when looking at chain state overall... Why is there nearly $50M in stables sitting on the sidelines. Why not just bridge it out if you want out of what you think is a dead chain. Surely leaving it there exposes you to bridge risk? Why all these yield movements, why the $HEX dusts.... Something is happening. People are seemingly waiting to see what that something is. Or I am reading into things, NFA as always. This whole post is just ramblings of someone trying to do the best they can and certainly not any kind of advice. When I look at other ecosystems, I see a level of polish we don't have. I see tooling we don't have, I see a fostered developer environment we don't have. So I've just been building it, painstakingly.... Because someone has to if we want to be taken seriously. Are you safer with LIDAR, or are you safer... with vision? This is a false dichotomy. The more pertinent question today is "do you have something, or do you have nothing?" As you can see from the clips below, vision based systems avoid countless potential collisions every day. The difference between a crash and no crash isn't what sensor suite you chose — it's whether you have any AI on your car at all. Even if we concede that LIDAR may help prevent some additional crashes, we are really debating whether it is 1% of crashes or 0.00001% of crashes. Not all crashes are super complex and require lasers to detect. Most are simple, routine, and can easily be prevented by today's vision based AI. In fact, evidence is mounting that computer vision based systems can actually outperform more traditional approaches to self-driving. Why? Because the low cost of cameras enables you to create a much larger, more varied, and more diverse dataset. If you want to have expensive custom cars that's fine, but you're going to get fewer vehicles for the same budget. Seeing what's in front of you now is actually less important than predicting what's going to happen next — and the large scale datasets used to train pure vision systems are the best for predicting what's next. Counter-intuitively, the simpler and lower cost sensor actually has properties that make it better suited for training advanced AI. Computer vision based self-driving is often framed by LIDAR proponents as "cheaping out" on the sensor suite to save money. But it's not about being cheap, it's about bringing the technology to everyone. 1.2 million people die on the road every year around the world. That's around 39 million people who've died on the roads around the world since I was born — equivalent to a city the size of Tokyo or New Delhi getting wiped off the map. The status quo is simply unacceptable, and something has to be done to fix it as soon as possible. Of the 1.2 million people that will die on the roads this year, about 40,000 will be Americans. That's about 3%. So if we moved entirely to self-driving cars in America and brought crashes down to 0, 97% of the world's crash fatalities would still be taking place as usual. Deploying a $200,000+ retrofitted self-driving car may work in a few American cities, but it is not going to make sense in most places around the world where fares are much cheaper. Most often, the choice is not between LIDAR and vision. It's between vision or nothing. The best system is the system that's there running on my car when I need it to save my life. To say that all self-driving cars must have LIDAR is to sentence most of the world to death. We can't write off computer vision if we want to make a serious dent in this problem. Has been a while since I've given an update... so here's a breakdown of where Sappy is at right now and what we're focusing on going into this year. Pre-amble: With altcoins & NFTs the market is definitely not the same as it was before. I think this is obvious to everyone but I've noticed there are still japanese soldiers that are convinced old tricks and mechanics work. They don't. Liquidity is thin; people want to bid assets that feel like "real companies" not vacuous memecoins. There's still room for memecoins, social currencies, and "utility tokens" (I would say without these functions, tokens are hard to justify versus equities). I'm not part of the camp that thinks there will never be hyperspeculation in crypto again, because there will be; we all love ponzis and PvPing each other onchain. Just not with solved games -- people need something new and fresh. So the overarching plan is to continue building for users, sustainable revenues that aren't tied to directly to crypto, and doubling down on the areas that we've already found PMF / Brand Market Fit. Then leaning into crypto during cyclical periods where liquidity is sloshing around at an accelerated rate. Where we've found early PMF / what we're leaning into: Roblox: we're going to continue to go hard and accelerate here. It's our main objective to ship more seal/brainrot focused games across most genres to cast as wide of a net as we can for the brand, and to also iterate and see what works and stays sticky. Our initial incursion into Roblox was very successful peaking at 2M+ MAU and still sustaining a large portion of that player base... for all of its success, that was a relatively amateur first attempt; we've been setting up better AI pipelines for Roblox development that makes it reasonable to ship many more games and 10x those player counts in totality. Fortnite and Roblox are functional equivalents to the old school consoles and exactly where that is taking place. Which is why as much as I care about scaling revenues through Roblox, the long term brand equity gained purely through being popular on the platform is totally invaluable. It also can heavily convert to merchandise sales today if all touchpoints for the brand are dialed in (which is why brands get overcharged so much by Roblox dev shops for the same ROI that only cost us a few thousand $). We have the playbook, it's just about iterating new concepts and then aggressively scaling. Brand Expansion & Merchandising: I've started to create a content pipeline that is easily repeatable, cost efficient (costs next to nothing through either AI or smart reusable concepts), while still being very tasteful and meeting our quality standards for the brand. We are mostly focusing here on reaching people where they're at through nostalgic/emotional content, or just being visually stimulating through carefully curated aesthetics. The current state of the Islamic Republic is quite... strange. From a social restrictions perspective, it is utterly incomparable to when I was young or even 5 years ago. This goes far beyond people choosing to mass defy hijab laws - the restrictions against things like mixed dancing, concerts, music festivals, rave like atmospheres, drinking, recreational drugs, and all sorts of out of marriage sexual relationships are dissolved to a unrecognizable very low bar compared to the past. No it's not Turkey or Dubai (yet) and yes people still do get in trouble frequently (particularly businesses who host things - which is why you'll go to high end restaurants where everything is happening and they don't care but they'll immediately stop you if you take a picture out of fear it will go viral). But the cat is out of the bag. In every corner of the country the rules are flagrantly defied. Not just in cute underground parties at some well connected kid's house or some hippies doing drugs in a desert 3 hours from the city - no very much in the open, often advertised on social media, and not hidden at all (both videos are from the last month - the second video is in Shiraz). This was unthinkable just a few years ago. On the other hand the political atmosphere is currently closed at a level I don't remember other than the first few months after the 2009 election. It resembles the Islamic Republic of the late 80s more than what we've seen for most of my life. And from an international relations perspective all caution & restraint are gone and you see the most extremist elements (who ironically were kept in check by the older Khamenei who mistrusted them just as much as he mistrusted liberals) increasingly running the show, eagerly acting in a way that I struggle to describe in anyway other than delusional insanity. The economy is shattered to a level in which even the upper middle class are struggling to make ends meet, let alone the poor who are living through unthinkable conditions. This is a very different Islamic Republic from the "normal" baseline my generation is used to. Quality of life continues to nosedive at a horrendous level. Uncertainty is everywhere. External attacks are no longer a fear but a near daily reality. It is increasingly unclear who (if anyone) is in charge and what direction they are trying to steer the country in. The current situation might last for a bit as a transition state, but it is very difficult to imagine something this unstable, with so many contradictions, and this reckless, being durable. When eating rock salt, during digestion, the sodium is separated from the chloride, so the sodium ion becomes isolated. Isolated sodium is more volatile than nitroglycerin, this is when it becomes an explosive. So during digestion and after, this isolated sodium creates micro-explosions in the blood, destroying other nutrients and killing cells. On the second day of recruiting myths… Myth #2:... “The name on the front of your jersey doesn’t matter.” There is some truth here. But people usually say this to make you feel better if you’re not on a team in the “recruiting bubble.” And yes of course there are always outliers. If you’re Montana Fouts, you could show up playing for the Butterflies and coaches would still be lined up drooling at the fence. But for most of us? The jersey does matter. Especially if you don’t have true 5-star size or can’t blow people away with elite metrics. I know this because I’ve been on both sides of it. Same player. Same work ethic. Completely different response from coaches. Why does the jersey matter more than people admit? First impressions. If a coach doesn’t recognize your club as one that consistently produces players at their level, you have to overwhelm them with performance and numbers just to get the same look. What matters even more than the jersey name is the coach attached to it. My last club, Rising, was brand new. But my coach, Steve Appel, had a lot of successful former players at top 25 programs. Coaches knew him. Trusted him. We were at the best fields and no one cared what was on the front of our jerseys. At my first tournament with that team, I saw more college coaches than I had in my entire recruiting journey before that. It’s true. College coaches aren’t recruiting a jersey. Why is Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal — chair of the... Democratic Party's Progressive Caucus — peddling a false narrative about Cuban healthcare being better than the U.S.? From my research on my book PHARMA, I know what she says is WRONG. But she keeps repeating it and I am sure many progressives believe it. No legacy journalist is calling her out so let me do the job. Most recently, she stood at a Capitol Hill press conference on July 1 — flanked by Reps. Delia Ramírez, Jonathan Jackson, and Ro Khanna, under a banner reading "Demanding an End to the Blockade Against Cuba and International Medical Solidarity" — and told the crowd that Cuba, despite all its difficulties, had done admirable work preventing “maternal mortality, neonatal mortality, and cancer,”in her words, "areas in which we in the United States are still struggling to make progress." It wasn't an ad-lib. It was a return engagement. In an April interview after her own delegation trip to Havana, Jayapal said Cuba has "the lowest infant mortality, maternal mortality — sort of the opposite of what the United States has." When the reporter mentioned Cuba's higher life expectancy, she agreed with that too. The Washington Post's editorial board flagged it then as a flawed diagnosis. She said it again in front of National Nurses United two months later. So it's worth actually running the numbers, one at a time. Maternal mortality. The U.S. rate was 18.6 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2023, and it fell further to 17.9 in 2024. Cuba's own Ministry of Public Health reported its maternal mortality rate at 40.6 per 100,000 in 2024 and rising to 44.1 in 2025 — better than two-and-a-half times the American rate, and climbing. There is no version of the current data where Cuba is "the opposite" of the U.S. on this metric. It's far worse. Neonatal/infant mortality. Cuba's official infant mortality rate did fall to a low of 4.0 per 1,000 live births in 2018 — a genuinely low number, and one Cuba has kept touting. But two things complicate that figure. First, a peer-reviewed study in Health Policy and Planning found evidence that Cuban physicians have been pressured to reclassify early neonatal deaths as late fetal deaths (effectively, miscarriages) to hit government mortality targets — a known method of statistical manipulation, flagged by demographers going back to the 1990s. Corrected for that, researchers put Cuba's real infant mortality rate somewhere between 7.45 and 11.16 per 1,000, not the sub-5 figure the government published. Second, and more damning for Jayapal's live claim: Cuba's own current numbers show infant mortality at 9.9 per 1,000 as of the end of 2025 — up 148% from that 2018 low, and now well above the U.S. rate. Havana's maternity wards are reporting sewage leaks in neonatal units and adolescent pregnancy rates spiking past 20% in some provinces. Whatever Cuba was doing right in 2018, it isn't doing now, and the 2018 number itself was likely inflated by data manipulation to begin with. Cancer. This is the claim with the least data behind it and the most against it. The most recent regional analysis of Latin America and the Caribbean, using 2022 GLOBOCAN figures, found Cuba has the highest age-standardized cancer mortality rate in the entire region — 136.6 per 100,000 for men, 91.6 per 100,000 for women — ahead of Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Colombia. There is no dataset I could find, from PAHO, WHO, or IARC, showing Cuban cancer outcomes outperforming the United States. Cuba's president, Díaz-Canel, touring a Havana maternity hospital the same week Jayapal spoke, said the healthcare system currently can't get lifesaving treatment to more than 100,000 cancer patients, including 1,200 children, due to shortages. That's not a system beating American oncology. That's a system in collapse, by the Cuban government's own telling. The bigger problem with the claim. During my reporting for PHARMA I learned that Cuba's low mortality figures have functioned as propaganda for an authoritarian government for over 30 years — repeated uncritically by public health researchers, NGOs, and now members of Congress, because the story fits a preferred narrative about what a "resource-poor" country can accomplish with universal healthcare. But the country producing those numbers has no free press, no independent statistical audit, and a documented history of reclassifying deaths to hit targets. That's not a minor asterisk. It's the whole ballgame if you're going to hold a press conference built on the premise that Cuba is quietly outperforming America.
