My girlfriend of several years asked me to go... ring shopping with her this weekend. I replied, "respectfully babe, i love you, but no." After 3 incredible years and 1.6M students later, my... journey at ALX Africa has come to an end. It has been a life-changing experience, during which I made a lot of friends, worked with an incredibly dedicated team, and met so many talented students. A few numbers. We scaled from a few thousand students to 1.6M students on our platform. Students loved it and many of them took more than one course: 4M total! For the famous #ALX_SE Software engineering program, our SE students made an average of 2,000 commits and our checker reviewed 180M of their projects. That’s 2B lines of code… and that was before Claude Code. They actually wrote these themselves (unless Kimba said otherwise :) A big thank you to all my SE team mates, I am so proud of what we have accomplished, and I will really miss you all. I wanna share a story from #wtrsfminSingapore, the 5th... stop of his 2024 world tour. We all kinda knew he wasn't in a good condition that day, after the packed schedule, nonstop shows, long flights… It showed. He looked pale, drenched in sweat. But like he always does, he gave everything on stage. Once he stepped out, it was like his body forgot how tired it was, like being up there healed him, even just for a while. There were some cracks in his voice, and a few songs weren't performed. It was enough to tell he couldn't push much more and needed real rest. Still, he ended the show with an apology for "not giving his best." But honestly? We all felt the same, I believe. He gave more than enough. So much, it made us worry for him. And to make it even harder, before the show started, he'd already been through 1:1 VIP M&G. JARS lining up with different requests, all wanting our own little moment with him. He handled each one with care, warm, sincere joy. Because that's who Jae is. For him, it's never just about himself. It's always about us. This video was taken after the show, when we saw him heading to the restroom. He could've just walked away after that, no one would've blamed him. But instead, he looked at the crowd waiting and said with a gesture, "Come, let's make a line." Still smiling, still hugging each one. Even after everything. I cried. Some of us quietly left because it was just too hard to watch him push through when he was clearly on the edge. But Jae will always be Jae. Even the big, well-built security guards couldn't stop him from showing up for his fans. He's genuine. Everyone's sleeping on image-to-3D AI models. They can make... your app look incredibly unique, with just a little effort. Here's how. This is my calorie tracker, built in a week with nothing but prompting. Just Claude Code + a couple APIs. The visuals are all AI-generated. I'll be sharing the full workflow + all the crazy technical stuff Claude and I did to make this work, so nobody has to struggle through it like me. Deep dive coming soon! Till then, this is the high-level idea: 1. Get a clean image of the food (or whatever your asset is) - In my app, the user describes foods via text, or attaches images (or both) - If text, an LLM extracts the food description and formats it into a specific prompt I tuned for this design, and we generate an image using Z-Image Turbo through fal - If image, we do the same thing but with FLUX.2 [dev] to edit the user image into our reference design - Originally, both used Google Nano Banana, but switching to open models cut costs and latency a ton 2. Gaussian splatting (2D image → 3D model) - I tried various 2D-to-3D options on fal and ended up with TripoSplat as my preferred balance of speed, cost, latency; this turns an image into a 3D model that looks super high quality (link below) - The app displays the 2D image while our backend generates the 3D splat - We "groom" the splat to reduce size and load time by culling low-opacity/scale points 3. Render efficiently on device Originally, it looked great but ran at 10 FPS. Getting to 120 FPS was a crazy journey. TL;DR: - SwiftUI had to go; it forced us to render each asset in independent MTKViews, which wasn't workable - Instead, we composite every dish into one full-bleed CAMetalLayer using MetalSplatter (link below) - We had to make some optimizations within MetalSplatter's code too, to reduce the overhead of sorting points per render Then I added some finishing touches like the subtle rotation and parallax as they move around. I think it turned out pretty cool :) Overall, this took some effort, but we still got it done in less than a day. Hopefully your agent can follow in the footsteps of mine and do it much faster. One of our Facebook members contacted Louise and told her their plight and of course, straight away she said yes. WE HAVE TO HELP🙏🙏 So now to the dogs and how they are, they are not good, its absolutely heartbreaking 💔 5 boy golden retrievers likely have been used for breeding/puppy farming 😡. All varying ages, 1 very old boy. 1 has a neck injury we think from being tied up, he is also severely matted. 4 are terrified , 1 petrified. We have an old boy who is ok . WHAT WE NEED .... Louise has arranged for them to be transported to our kennels this weekend so firstly they can decompress and secondly we can get them all vet checked. They are all underweight un-neutered and some may be in pain 💔. NOW THIS IS THE UK SO WE ARE TALKING THOUSANDS HERE TO NOT HUNDREDS IN VET BILLS . The plan is that once we get them sorted medically we then can place them in fosters. The older boy is an absolute star and I believe can go into foster after his vet check. Here’s to Shashwat Sachdev. Some collaborations go beyond work,... they become deeply personal. Sha has been that for me. Not just the music composer of Dhurandhar but someone I see as a younger brother, someone I’ve shared chaos, silence, ideas and some of the most intense creative days with. What he’s done on this film still doesn’t feel real when I say it out loud. 9 songs in 9 days for Dhurandhar Part 1, with the entire BGM done in 6 days. And then Dhurandhar Part 2, 14 songs in 11 days, BGM in 3. At that speed, at that scale, with that kind of emotional depth and that kind of extraordinary quality, it’s beyond crazy. And what makes it even more unreal is how both the albums, released within a span of 3 months, reached top global charts, with almost every song being loved and celebrated, something that’s an absolute rarity for any film in the world. For almost 15 days, my house stopped being a house. It became a living, breathing studio. Every room had something going on, music in the living room, recordings in the bedrooms, writing in the balconies. Singers and musicians walking in and out endlessly. Days and nights just blending into each other. 21–22 hour stretches, no real sense of time, just a shared madness to get it right. And right at the center of all of it was Sha.
