Lawyer Helenn Guilianna Silva Padilla was shot and killed in the town of San Martín de Porres (Cruce de San José), located in the district of San José, province of Pacasmayo. According to initial police reports, the victim was with a group of friends at an establishment near the main square when a hitman entered the premises and shot her in the back. Although she received immediate assistance and was rushed to La Fora Hospital in Guadalupe, the on-duty doctors could only confirm her death. Agents of the National Police and representatives of the Public Prosecutor's Office arrived at the scene to collect testimonies, review security cameras and begin investigations to identify the killer and clarify the motive for the crime. With this homicide, the province of Pacasmayo registers a worrying toll of 10 fatal victims due to criminal acts so far this year, raising alarms among the population who demand a greater police presence.
