A shocking incident was reported from #Bengaluru on Friday after #CJRoy, a well-known businessman and founder of the #ConfidentGroup, allegedly attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head with a revolver. The incident took place on #LangfordRoad near #RichmondCircle. CJ Roy was seriously injured and was immediately shifted to a local hospital. On the same day, officials from the Income Tax Department carried out raids on offices linked to the Confident Group. Police sources said it is suspected that CJ Roy took the extreme step due to fear and stress related to the #ITRaids. However, officials have clarified that the exact reason behind the suicide attempt is still under investigation and no final conclusion has been reached. After receiving information about the incident, police rushed to the spot and secured the area. CJ Roy was found in a critical condition and was shifted to hospital without delay. Doctors earlier said that his injuries were serious, and he was put under close medical observation. Dr Roy Chiriankandath Joseph, popularly known as CJ Roy, was the founder and chairman of the Confident Group, a major real estate, hospitality, and entertainment company. He built a large business empire in Bengaluru and expanded operations to several states across India. The group also has a strong presence abroad, including in Dubai and the Middle East. CJ Roy was known for developing over 65 projects and following a zero-debt business model. He also served as the Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic and was known for his interest in luxury cars and social welfare activities. Apart from real estate, the Confident Group is involved in hospitality and entertainment ventures. CJ Roy was often seen at business and social events and was regarded as a prominent figure in Bengaluru’s business circles. The news of his suicide attempt has come as a shock to employees, associates, and the wider business community. Police said further investigation is underway to understand the full sequence of events. Officials are also looking into the circumstances surrounding the IT raids and the incident.

Confident Group Chairman #CJRoy died by suicide after shooting himself at the company’s office near Richmond Circle in central Bengaluru on Friday. The incident occurred inside the #ConfidentGroup premises, triggering an immediate police response and a high-level inspection by city authorities. Bengaluru Police Commissioner S. Seemanth Kumar Singh visited the scene in the evening and personally reviewed the office area where the incident took place. Speaking to the media after the inspection, the Commissioner stated that initial findings indicate a self-inflicted gunshot. He added that a detailed investigation has been launched to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the death. According to the Police Commissioner, the incident occurred at around 3.15 pm. He confirmed that Income Tax (IT) department searches had been underway over the last three days, with officials arriving from #Kerala. As of now, no IT officials remain at the location. #BengaluruPolice will seek relevant information from the IT department as part of the investigation. The Commissioner further said that C.J. Roy’s family members are currently abroad and are on their way to Bengaluru. Statements will be recorded from them once they arrive. He reiterated that, based on the preliminary assessment, the case appears to be a self-shooting, but all angles are being examined. Police are also evaluating the legal classification of the case, including whether it should be registered as an unnatural death or if sections related to abetment of suicide need to be invoked. A complaint has already been submitted by one of the directors of the Confident Group, the Commissioner confirmed. Investigators continue to gather evidence from the office premises as part of the ongoing probe, with further clarity expected after examination of records and statements.

Following the alleged suicide of #ConfidentGroup Chairman #CJRoy, #Karnataka Home Minister #DrGParameshwara on Saturday said that Roy's company had been raided by the Income Tax Department in December 2025 and was given 60 days to file a chargesheet. Speaking to reporters in #Bengaluru, Parameshwara said the deadline to file the chargesheet was February 4, and Roy had returned from #Dubai three days ago. He added that Roy cooperated with the Income Tax officials who visited his office to record his statement. "His (CJ Roy) company was raided by the IT department in December. They were given 60 days to file a charge sheet. The deadline was set for the February 4 and he arrived from Dubai three days ago. The officials (#IncomeTax) went to his office to record his statement. He (Roy) responded to that," Parameshwara told reporters. The Home Minister further stated that Roy went inside his office, saying he would come out in a few minutes. However, when he did not emerge for about 20 minutes, it was found that he had died by "suicide". Parameshwara said an investigation would be conducted into the earlier incident and that he has asked his department to conduct a preliminary inquiry. "In the meantime, he went to his office and said he would come in a few minutes. When he did not come out for about 20 minutes, it was noticed that he had committed suicide. Apart from this, an investigation should be conducted to find out what happened in the past. I have asked our department to conduct a preliminary investigation," Parameshwara said.
