#hypersonic

Northrop Grumman’s Advanced #Hypersonic Tech IMU just went 3-for-3 in flight tests, proving reliable navigation at hypersonic speeds and enabling precise weapon targeting without GPS. It also proved reusable, completing three shots in six months, including two on a reusable hypersonic vehicle.

#Hypersonic missiles exhibit a brief detectability window during their boost phase, which can be captured by satellite-based early warning systems. Following this, they descend to lower altitudes than traditional ballistic trajectories, significantly reducing their radar signature and rendering them effectively undetectable for much of their flight. Detection becomes feasible again when these vehicles reappear at altitudes between 30 and 95 km and come within 400 to 600 km of ground-based radar stations. However, due to their high maneuverability and unpredictable flight paths, accurately determining their intended targets remains a significant challenge, making interception efforts highly impractical. Findings from a study of HGV RCS vs EM Bands 1 HF/VHF: Stable RCS with minimal fluctuation 2 UHF: Moderate fluctuation 3 L/S bands: More complex behavior— captures Some RCS variability.
