It destroyed villages, roads, bridges, and infrastructure. The flood originated near the border and hit both sides. Location: Primarily Rasuwa district in Nepal (Syapru Besi, Timure areas) and downstream districts (Nuwakot, Dhading, etc.). On the Chinese side, Gyirong Port (Gyirong County) in Tibet was heavily impacted, cutting roads, power, and communications. Cause: Preliminary reports point to an earthquake-triggered ice-rock avalanche or rockslide into the Lhende Khola / Bhote Koshi river system. There was little to no rainfall in Nepal at the time. Experts link it to glacial/avalanche activity in the high Himalayas. Casualties (preliminary & rising):At least 8–31 people confirmed dead (reports vary; some sources cite 22+ bodies recovered). Around 384 people missing, including roughly 291 foreigners and 93 Nepalis. Foreign missing include approximately 105 Indians, 12 British nationals, 3 US citizens, Malaysians, South Africans, and others. “Major casualties” and missing persons reported on the Tibet side at Gyirong Port. Security personnel and hydropower workers are also among the missing. India is coordinating closely with Nepal on relief. Risk of a secondary flood remains due to an upstream blockage on the Lhende Khola.
