👀 WATCH: Andy Burnham at #PMQs today. Andy’s open, warm manner makes PMQs infinitely more enjoyable to watch. He listens. He engages. He smiles. He disagrees without looking permanently furious with the person asking the question. After years of Starmer computer says no, it feels remarkably refreshing. Burnham doesn’t look as though he hates being there. He’s open, warm, occasionally amused, and actually appears to be engaging with the person opposite him rather than reciting something downloaded into his head. Even when Badenoch attacks him, he keeps inviting her to work with him. That makes PMQs feel less grim. And politically it helps him: warmth doesn’t make him look weak. When he gets to the final answer: “Britain has to stand for something” the change in register feels natural rather than rehearsed. Badenoch’s “just vibes” attack is interesting because, ironically, Burnham’s manner may be one of his political strengths. People don’t only judge whether a PM can win an argument; they judge whether they feel comfortable with that person running the country.
