We believe this to be a Planctoteuthis squid (seen at 914m deep during the #WesternGalapagos expedition), but the “streamers” it is presenting here have us puzzled. Are they stringy parasites? An attempt to mimic a siphonophore? Tell us what you think! #Squidtember #DeepSea 1/2

#Squidtember just keeps on giving with some new #deepsea vision of 𝘐𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴. Hot on the tentacles of our last post 𝘔𝘢𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘢 this 'Whip-lash' squid graced our cameras at 1000 metres deep in the Tonga Trench. Alan Jamieson UWA Inkfish
