At the UN Security Council #UNSC I spoke of law, but also of lives: Palestinians forced from their homes, families displaced again and again, communities severed from land, water, schools, clinics and livelihoods, while Norwegian Refugee Council humanitarian aid is obstructed. The ICJ has spoken. Israel's presence in the occupied Palestinian territory is unlawful. Settlements are not facts to be managed, but breaches to be brought to an end. Displacement is not an accident, but the foreseeable result of a system of domination. Reparations are not generosity. They are the legal consequence of a wrongful act. The question before States is no longer what the law says. It is whether they will give it effect.
