Coordination Meeting Between Police and GHMC on Monsoon Preparedness Advance measures to prevent inconvenience to city residents Keeping the upcoming monsoon season in view, the Police and GHMC departments have decided to work in coordination to take preventive measures so that citizens do not face any inconvenience. A convergence coordination meeting was held on Thursday at the Old Police Commissionerate Office in Basheerbagh under the leadership of Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sri V. C. Sajjanar, IPS, and GHMC Commissioner Sri R. V. Karnan, IAS. During the meeting, officials discussed several key issues and gave clear directions to field-level staff. They instructed that desilting of drainage systems and repair of pipelines should begin immediately on a war footing, rather than waiting for the rains to start. Officials also emphasized that work should begin immediately at the top 10 identified waterlogging points in the city to provide permanent solutions. They further directed that all open manholes must be securely covered to prevent any threat to public safety. It was noted that a proper plan should be prepared and implemented to remove encroachments on footpaths for the convenience of pedestrians. Authorities were also instructed to ensure that streetlights function properly at night for public safety and to install new lights wherever necessary. To prevent road accidents, engineering defects on roads should be rectified. Continuous measures should also be taken to avoid traffic congestion near ongoing flyover and underpass construction sites. GHMC Commissioner Sri R. V. Karnan stated: Ensuring that there is no loss of life or property during the monsoon is the primary responsibility of officials. GHMC will work closely with the police department to further improve urban infrastructure, with special focus on road maintenance and city beautification. In this regard, he has also informed that dedicated budget of Rs. 25 Crores per each Zone (Total - Rs. 150 Crores) shall be allocated exclusively for traffic improvement-related works. Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sri V. C. Sajjanar added: Such convergence meetings between departments help resolve ground-level issues more quickly. He stressed that top priority should be given to traffic regulation and pedestrian safety.
