100 years ago today, Uncle Jimmy Thompson walked into WSM’s downtown studio and played his fiddle for an hour. The reaction was overwhelming. Within weeks, WSM launched a Saturday night “Barn Dance,” soon renamed the Grand Ole Opry. Here’s a clip from our film COUNTRY MUSIC.
