Can hardly be called an attempt to go to 2nd. (That’s the rule, an attempt). Didn’t even cross the foul line man what are we doing 💀

Zero attempt. More proof that the mlb wants and needs to get rid of umpires and have baseball completely ruled by cameras/AI

0001 iq play, he never even crossed the foul ball line. Cubs got hosed on this.

Dumb call, that isn't called 99 out of 100 times

Shaw did not make a move towards second. I’m sorry, but that did not happen.

Looking where the ball went is not an attempt for second.

Runner showed intent. Just briefly, and didn’t cross over the baseline, but doesn’t matter. Ruling is subjective. Ump determines intent based on what he sees and what he thinks. Surprised it’s even reviewable…

Add it to the list of BS calls against the cubs this year. Been atleast a dozen of these types

It’s smart for the marlins players to follow through with the play but that’s insane for the umps to call. As the season winds down they need to make sure they let everyone know they’re there and the main characters.

So because he turns to the left instead of the right, it's an "attempt", despite him leaning backwards to stop running. Poor decision by the umpire.

@JonPgh That’s a horrendous call and completely against the spirit of the rule…boooooo!

How do you make a move toward 2nd base and not be in fair territory. Ridiculous.

Never even makes an attempt and stays in foul territory

Me looking for the guy-who-stayed-outside-the-foul-line-and-was-casually walking-back-to-first-base’s move to second

1000iq? this is taught in Little League

Terrible fucking call. Umpires these days are a fucking joke

At the MLB level, any hesitation or slight action towards 2nd base shows intent. From that point, he needs to get back to the bag. The foul line has zero impact on the call. I 100% support this call, because the second you don’t call it, you’ll start trying to take advantage

You can't even feign a turn like that. He's out. It's in the rulebook.

Can someone explain what happened here? Hard to tell at the stadium. Did he not step on the bag? Run out of the basepath?

All the people crying over this being a bad call is absurd. One of the first things you learn in baseball is to turn right when headed back to first, second you turn left you’re vulnerable. Mind numbing how many people don’t know this.
I love how every replay was a worse angle than the original wide shot.

between this BS call and the Michigan game, just get rid of human umps. You don't need them calling balls/strikes anymore. An umps "judgement" can't be a rule. My definition is different than the next and that can determine a game? Stupid.

Twice the umps today were bozos. Doesn’t matter lost 10 to 3 but sad

He didn’t even cross the foul line. Horrendous call

@305_Showtime Absolutely bs he didn’t make a turn to 2nd

I’m not even a baseball guy but the runner is out. Don’t turn towards second if you don’t plan on going.

Bunch of angry Cubs fans whining in the comments. 😂

I like this Mack Cat👆🇺🇸⚾😎

Bad call. It doesn’t matter he turned. He didn’t make attempt. MLB umpire should be better

So literally all you have to do is flinch to your left. What a ridiculous and embarrassing rule.

This was another awful call at first by umpire! I umpired semi pro and that was not an attempt to advance! These guys need to get their head out of their ass! Just pitiful!

Retarded ass umps

I uploaded the clip and asked ChatGPT to trace his path on a still frame. 😂 I don’t think AI is quite there yet

100% correct call, if you think otherwise you're a casual
