Since then productivity has grown 2.5x, but the real minimum wage is today half. Moving to $25 is making sure workers are being paid for what they produce.

On April 1st, California raised the minimum wages for fast food workers to $20/hour. That same day, Fosters Freeze went out of business and laid off all 20 employees. The owner says that he was crushed but is unable to sustain the wage hike as a small business owner. Mass layoffs and price hikes have already begun…. and we aren't even a week in.

But the Dept. of Labor is planning to strip minimum wage and overtime protections from home health care workers who care for more than 9 million seniors and people with disabilities across our country. I’m fighting to protect the 13,000 Nevada workers who keep our seniors and individuals with disabilities safe at home. I joined a letter opposing this reckless rollback to defend the workers who support some of our most vulnerable friends and neighbors.

Restaurants who have been forced to conduct layoffs include Rubios, Pizza Hut, Subway, Burger King, McDonalds, and more. Some restaurants are replacing the workers with digital kiosks to save on costs. "We have kiosks in probably about 25 percent of our restaurants today," said a Burger King franchisee. "However, the other 75 percent are going to have kiosks in the next probably 30 to 60 days."
