12 Angry Men (1957) is the blueprint for the one-location masterpiece. Tense, layered, and a triumph of writing and performance.

12 Angry Men (1957) only gets sharper with time. Shot almost entirely in one room, Sidney Lumet gradually lowered the camera angles and tightened the framing as the film went on, subtly increasing the tension.

Sidney Lumet's '12 Angry Men' was released on this day in 1957. For us, it's one of the greatest films ever made. A masterful courtroom drama from Lumet, marking his directorial debut, featuring an incredible cast including Henry Fonda, Lee J. Cobb, and Martin Balsam.

12 Angry Men (1957) "It never occurred to me that shooting an entire picture in one room was a problem. I felt I could turn it into an advantage. One of the most important dramatic elements for me was the sense of entrapment those men must have felt in that room" — Sidney Lumet
