The outlawing of regular light bulbs was another Obama nightmare

This has been proven wrong, if you make filament thinner, the bulb runs hotter, so you not only get better light but also need less tungsten, but it shortens the life of bulb significantly. So what 1000hrs life rule was to limit poor life bulbs. Plus thin filament had side benefit of low power consumption which in longer runs make overall Capex+Opex less expensive.

The Canadian government actually BANNED incandescent bulbs! One may find a shelf of 'rough duty' left at local hardware stores. The last of non-LED bulbs.

@Willb9866 Man, this is some retarded shit. LEDs are Light Emitting Diodes, and are better than incandescent bulbs in every possible way.

Profilbild von Maxgunn

There is almost no chance that an LED bulb will ever break the barrier of being environmentally friendly. The damage caused by making one will never be recovered by saving energy total hoax to get you to use poor quality lighting which is bad for your health same as fluorescent🤠

LED garbage doesn’t even last like they claimed it would.

Well, we will have to change this! I'm in Washington state and can't buy incandescent bulbs of any kind. My friend has me looking at thrift stores for incandescents. His is a maddening example of corporate greed. 🤬

Bullshit. Stop blindly believing shit, people... That is a great question that dives into a bit of history and a popular conspiracy theory! The claim that early tungsten bulbs lasted 100 years is generally inaccurate for standard household bulbs, but it stems from a few key factors: 1. The "Centennial Light" The most famous example is the Centennial Light bulb in a fire station in Livermore, California, which has been burning almost continuously since 1901. * Key Detail: This bulb is a carbon filament bulb (an older technology that pre-dates the Mazda-era tungsten filament), and it is run at an extremely low voltage, making it very dim (now equivalent to about 4 watts). Running a bulb far below its rated voltage makes it last exponentially longer, but it sacrifices almost all practical light output. 2. Longer Lifespan in Early Tungsten Bulbs (Pre-1925) The early tungsten filament bulbs (like the GE Mazda brand introduced around 1909) did tend to last longer than the 1,000 hours that became standard later. * Lifespan vs. Efficiency Trade-off: Engineers at the time knew there was a trade-off: to make a bulb brighter and more energy-efficient (producing a whiter light), you had to run the filament hotter, which shortened its lifespan. To make a bulb last longer, you ran the filament cooler, which made it dimmer and less efficient (more yellow/orange light). * Early manufacturers prioritized longevity (sometimes up to 2,500 hours or more) because electricity was very expensive and the inconvenience of changing bulbs was high. 3. The Phoebus Cartel and Planned Obsolescence The main reason standard incandescent bulbs don't last for decades is due to a historical decision regarding a trade-off in design: * The Cartel: In 1925, major international light bulb manufacturers (including GE, Osram, and Philips) formed the Phoebus cartel. * The Standard: One of the cartel's goals was to standardize the lifespan of the common incandescent bulb at 1,000 hours. They even fined manufacturers whose bulbs lasted significantly longer than that. * The Rationale: While this is often cited as a prime example of planned obsolescence to boost sales, the manufacturers argued that 1,000 hours was the most economically beneficial compromise for the consumer, offering the best balance of brightness (efficiency) and reasonable lifespan. In summary: | Characteristic | Early Mazda/Tungsten Bulb (c. 1910) | Modern-Day Incandescent (Standard) | |---|---|---| | Lifespan Goal | Often 1,500–2,500+ hours | Standardized at \approx 1,000 hours | | Brightness/Efficiency | Lower (yellow-orange light) | Higher (brighter, whiter light) | | Technology | Tungsten filament | Refined Tungsten filament and fill gas | The very long-lasting bulbs (like the Centennial Light) are anomalies that were only able to achieve that longevity by being operated at a fraction of their brightness/wattage, essentially sacrificing their function as a useful light source.

Because they wanted ppl to buy more. Thats why now it’s a throwaway society it breaks out it in landfill & get another one. I have a fan that is 41 going on 42 years old & it works perfectly.

Went to Home Depot 5 months ago, bought a twin pack of 43 watt standard LED warm light bulbs for my desk, paid top dollar. Left town for 3 months and both bulbs have burned out. One died a month ago, the other today They lasted 2 months

There was a documentary about this as well. The real question is what type of people would do this? Who makes it their career to make products worse? Who would want to do this to the community? Who could it be now?

Matt, doing a great job sharing vital information as always🙂 Been following him on telegram for the last 4 years, a wealth of information. Compact fluorescent lights flicker👇 I've read that this could possibly trigger individuals who suffer from seizures. Good videos about lights, added one of Matt's in.

LED's use less power, that is the main argument and it is true. They are better and yeah, what I run in my house right now, if I was to replace all bulbs I have, 90 bulbs * 40w = 3.6kw per hour from dusk to midnight and 35 outside that run all night. Right now I use smart LED bulbs that suck 6w when on 100%, that's 90 * 6 = 540w, 85% less power usage. Even if I have to exchange them every 10 years, I save a ton of money.

There is a factory in Sweden that have a light-room where they every year put up a tube and a bulb. The company is 100 years old and so far none have broken down. Their target market is where its complex to change them, tunnels, buildings and so on.

In New Jersey you can’t even buy an incandescent bulb. To get them on Amazon they so stupid expensive. Like 35$ for 6 60w bulbs. And to think we got rolling over a tax on TEA. No we just take it all in the ass

Tell me that you have no clue about physics without telling me. The bulb he is showing is not a model from 120 ya. Ontop it had 300 lumen at 100W. And the real kicker. An Edison or Mazda bulb was $45 at the time. That is ~$1200 by today's money. Elitist

Exuse me but isn't it a bit retarded to say it last 120year and they reversed engineered it due to this even though it was only years old when they did this. So GE were future time travelling, went forward 120 years, realised Mazda made a great bulb, came back and proceeded to reverse engineer?
