Chechnya’s first President Dzhokhar Dudayev speaking about why Russia invaded his country. He was killed in a Russian airstrike in 1996. It came from the Red Army's ground assault in April-May 1945. Soviet artillery. Soviet tanks. Block-by-block urban warfare that reduced Berlin to rubble while Western forces were still hundreds of kilometers away. The Western Allies bombed the city, sure. But the real flattening and more important capturing happened when Soviet soldiers fought through every street and every building, losing catastrophic numbers to take it. So, something very twisted is going on. An American arrogance built on its own mythology, glorifying destruction as if it were the achievement itself.
