1941 when dancing was a full contact scenario.

@AfricanArchives It’s understated on how good of shape these people were in. This some out of this world cardio right here. 😂

@2d7ba3001f664c9 Swing dancing those people where athletic af and you are not wrong

@AfricanArchives One of the coolest parts of this choreography for me is that it looks like when the women in the black dress launches herself headfirst over her partner's shoulder for a catch, the other male dancer puts himself in position as a safety spotter. Then he plays it off of as a move.

Woah! youth in the 1940s, were NOT PLAYIN'...

@AfricanArchives That’s some serious footwork and lifting!!!

OK, these people are in better shape than professional athletes. Love the part where the lady holds the guy up.

More like a complete work out routine…. Nah, I’m so glad I wasn’t born then😂😂😂😂

Brotha man did the hurricane kicks while dancing with her before they were even a thing! 😁

I would send many people to hospital attempting to do this.

The dancing is like a cooperative gymnastics routine

so, black people invented choregraphed pro wrestling.. This looks like modern WWE.

Those times and those dancers. What a task they had picking the winners. Everybody was so good.

filmed in 1941 with zero effects and it’s still more insane than anything we see today. the pure speed and athleticism is just unmatched. they were really risking it all 💃🔥 if you tried this today, which bone are you breaking first?

As a kid, I would ask my aunt and uncles if I could dance with them. I was taught Hully Gully, Jitterbug & Lindy Hop. It was SO much fun!

I want to see Lindy Hop be popular again in our community. I love this dance

I'm losing my breath just looking at that.

That boy said

And this version of swingin’ was sanitized & refined for a movie production. Could you image the more authentic swinging that was done at the Savoy Ballroom & Cotton Club in Harlem at this time? To be a fly on that wall

Hot Chocolates and Frankie Manning was with us in his 90s with dance videos on Lindy Hop about 25 years ago. Legend.

Admittedly impressive...albeit on a rather primitive level...Whites were far more reserved and graceful and with less animalistic fervour...Astaire and Kelly were the refined version of this physical chaos...

A lot of trust and athleticism going on there 😂

this is so beautiful

Nggas worked a whole 12 hour shift back in the day just come home and hit this move

My old football coach always said "dancing is a contact sport. Football is a collision sport." 😂😂😂

@AfricanArchives Amazing

Oh nawwww they doing this fr 😭

@Chano19521 : 'Whitey's Lindy Hoppers' 🕯🕊🕯

Those folks had REALLY GOOD KNEES and STRONG BACKBONES!! 😆😆

@BlackLadyhawk They were MOVING!

Yep! My parents had those moves! Lindy Hop, Jitter Bug &a few others! Imagine tht being the standard of dancing bt it was! By the time I came along it was the Bump,The Hustle& Slow Dragging.😅 Mom did teach me to Jitter Bug through!😁Definitely a slower pace&safer too! 💃🏿🕺🏿😂😂😂

@AfricanArchives This scene reminds me of the video

The foundation of break dancing. Breaking was derived from black kids trying to mimic some of these moves.

At age 41, I am exhausted just watching this for 41 seconds. lol 😬

We the best ever did it ,an still R😎💯🙏🏿👀🔥

Bro… this dancing fr? 😂
