In December of 2023, Sergeant Richard Lee Houston responded to a routine disturbance call. In the parking lot in Mesquite, Texas he was confronted by a suspect and fatally shot. He left behind a wife and three children after serving on the Police Department for 21 years. His daughter, Shelby (18), gave a moving eulogy full of compassion for the man who took her father from her, a true testament to the man Sergeant Houston was and the values he instilled in his daughter.
