Where are the brass sections anymore in contemporary popular music? I miss it so much.

The artist is the late great Maynard Ferguson, saw him perform this at the Prom Ballroom in the Twin Cities 1977, very high energy!

I put bees wax on top of my braces to keep them from bleeding too much trying to copy Maynard’s high notes. Marching band trumpet days. Fun

Maynard Ferguson, what a memory. I saw him 3 times in performances through HS and early college. He was at the end of a huge career in big band was now playing very intimate venues. He always surrounded himself by the best musicians. Epic!

Flay Of Sole was a band in the Village in the 90's with lot's of brass. Memories Remain. Hi Erwin...

Wow, that guy is cookin’! 🔥🔥🔥 I’m embarrassed to say I never knew that was the name of that song. 😂

Man, those were the days! The outfits, the hair, the live music!

Maynard Ferguson. Before his concerts, he would give local high school trumpet players a short class. After that class, I moved to a 7c mouth piece and was able to hit a double high C for the first time.

My dad was a huge Maynard Ferguson fan.

CHIPS 😁

Almost as good as the music are the Japanese happi coats proudly displaying “kotobuki” (which I assume is the name of the restaurant where they got them)

The Rocky soundtrack is a masterpiece

MAYNARD FERGUSON!

Maynard’s rendition of “Hey Jude” is his finest work. Unfortunately there’s only a few us left who appreciate this kind of pure musical talent.

It's called "screech trumpet". It requires a special mouthpiece with a shallow cup. The embouchure requires lips to barely touch the mouthpiece so you get vibration. Requires fast compressed air through the trumpet. Allows for extremely high notes in the altissimo register.

Imagine studying music your whole life and top of your profession then being told to wear those ridiculous colored smock looking jackets.

The coonhounds love this music almost as much as they do Waylon Jennings.

Brian just incredible.I caught him live at Kleinhans in Buffalo in early years. With full Big Band. My roomate at college was Dick Halligan who left after his first year to go to Manhatan School of Music and help start "Blood ,Sweat and Tears"........

Maynard Ferguson absolutely ruled....

Temazo para una película de mierda

Music used to be a lot brassier.

👍🏻

In any performance, I just love watching the conductor 😍

At first I thought the first 15 seconds were AI with Trump as the conductor 😅

Now, that's some brass for you!

Who is the guy trying to strut his stuff in front of the band? Looks a bit of a wally😃 not my kind of music, but the musicians are great!

There was way too much trumpet in the 70's.

1977 was nearing peak kimono, which was like '79 or '80.

Love the brass ! Go Maynard !

@PoolerSuperFan The mighty Maynard Fergusson! I have his version on my running mix.

Sweet.

Shag carpet bliss.

My late brother's favorite musician, couldn't get enough of Maynard.
