The thing I don't understand is why the ESB felt the need to advertise. They were a bloody state owned monopoly!

To all those asking why ESB had to advertise, remember ESB also sold electrical appliances in their retail shops, most of which feature in the ad, that is why they are advertising.

Noticing 30 years later she puts the oven gloves on to put a cold saucepan on the hob.

Every light and appliance on!!!!! I hope she didn't forget to turn off the immersion

There's never been a Christmas ad to top it on Irish TV, because people could relate to it. Now every ad is plinky-plonky piano music & a singer who sounds like she's just woken up; over some contrived, maudlin tug-at-the-heart strings 'scene' copied & pasted from John Lewis.

@martinslife1982 does a great satire:

Brings back memories-spent summers in Rathdrum with the family who owned the parked car in this shot. Years later, this advert still holds fond memories for me.

Alan Hughes the hurler! 😂

The sublime Dusty Springfield singing one of the greatest songs ever (Goffin/King). Always brings a tear to my eye. PS: Also used for an Iarnrord Eireann ad?

Is that Sammy Sausages in the car
