Hard to believe this movie (My Dinner with Andre) came out in 1981... the message couldn’t be more relevant today. 🎯😳

Roger Ebert chose 'My Dinner with Andre' (1981) as the best film of 1981, and he & Gene Siskel later ranked it as the fifth-best and fourth-best film, respectively, of the 1980s. In 1999, Ebert added the film to his Great Movies essay series.

This Film often has the piss taken out of it for being a rather sedentary piece about 2 people just talking a lot — BUT — it has one of the most brilliantly prescient monologues in the history of Movies imho. MY DINNER WITH ANDRE (1981) Have a listen.

Louis Malle on 'My Dinner With Andre' (1981): "'My Dinner with Andre' (1981) is a very special experience. The one thing I’m really pleased with is that 90 percent of the spectators believe that it’s been shot in one afternoon with two cameras and the two actors improvising their lines. Actually, it took them two years to write the screenplay. We rehearsed for months. There’s not one dot that’s not been discussed. For instance, it took André Gregory six months to learn his lines because this is easily the longest part in the history of movies. There’s never been and there will never be as many lines said by the same actor. I hope not. It was a very elaborate process." (Louis Malle's conversation with the audience moderated by Richard A. Macksey, 1982)
