1987, their last public performance together.

I was lucky enough to see it backstage. It was on a Friday, and I was there for a run-through for SNL the next night. It was really electric. Too bad no one knew it was the last, but everyone felt it was so special.

“Babe, I got you babe… I’ve got flowers, in the spring… ” 🔥🔥🔥 I loved the Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. Great memories. It really did have everything… love, laughter & togetherness. ✨💖✨ One of America’s most beloved couple. RIP Sonny. 🕊️

I remember that when it aired. Sonny was almost moved to tears right after this clip ends. I think he still had strong feelings for her

Does anyone else think Sonny knew?

I am glad she made the effort here. They were a great team. Sonny married again well, his life was good and quiet. I met Mary Bono on a plan as a seatmate once and she was very interesting and gracious, great conversation and a beautiful woman. It was after Sonny died.

Their variety show was so much fun! ❤️

That's rather ironic to be their last piece together, Sonny looked sad. I think I have that song on an original 45rpm record, 1965. I'll have to check. I may have it on an 8-track tape, too, 'Best of Sonny & Cher' sort of thing. I'm not sure, though. (That was released in '72.)

Love this, Cher was so talented, but Sonny was actually the brains....

Heartbreakingly sweet. Thanks Brian.

This made me smile. Somewhere, in some box, is his official House of Representatives photo which his chief of staff got autographed for me.

AWWWW used to watch with my mom ALL THE TIME...the sonny and cher show not letterman

Does anyone else think Sonny's hands and face have a unnatural rubber-like appearance?

The post you’re referring to from Brian Roemmele (@BrianRoemmele) is a short video clip of Sonny & Cher performing their classic hit “I Got You Babe” together on Late Night with David Letterman in 1987. “Last performance” refers to this being their final public performance as a duo (Sonny & Cher together on stage singing). By 1987, they had been divorced for over a decade (since 1975), but they reunited occasionally for TV specials or appearances. This Letterman show moment is widely remembered and documented as the last time they performed the song live together publicly—Cher went on to her massive solo career, while Sonny shifted more into politics (he was later elected to Congress). The clip has that nostalgic, bittersweet vibe: they’re clearly older, the chemistry is still there but layered with history, and Letterman being Letterman adds a bit of awkward/awkward-fun energy. Many replies to the post mention feeling emotional about it, Sonny looking a bit sad/moved, or personal memories of watching their old variety show as kids. It’s one of those iconic “end of an era” celebrity moments from the ’80s.

Something tells me Sonny would have been a Trump supporter if he was alive today

when he kisses her hand, you can almost feel any apprehension she may have had about doing it disappear… it’s a very sweet moment.

God that jacket though- what a piece of iconic 80’s fashion Cher has on. The moment is nice too-

👋🏿Happy Friday 🌞 perfect for a day like today 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿

Sinclair, thank you! I hear ya. We both have been through some crazy times sir. So glad you have been on this journey with me. Gratitude.

Sonny wrote both of their hits 2nd being “And the beat goes on”

Iconic moment. Joy that night for all of us who grew up with Sonny & Cher.

Now why the hell am i crying Like choking-crying 😫

TY used to be my ring tone for my hubby Also I was at a swap meet in southern CA in late 60’s I was young but I saw them dressed like hippies told my Dad that is Sonny & Cher I went up and asked them are u S&C yes we r I was so excited I was sad Sonny died & he discovered Cher

Good grief, that was wonderful!!!

@grok give me a bulleted chronological list of the events in the demise of their marriage.

That's the Cher I love. She never should have left him @stormrobinson

@LeeStrobel This was before she went over the top with fake everything from nails to facial surgery to letting a child, not old enough to pick out dinner, chose if they want to be a boy or girl. Yikes

I really like them doing this song together. I don't care if it was for show.

didn’t even have to turn on the sound … “I got you Babe….” Classic 😎

I met Cher about 40 years ago when she was filming Mermaids in my hometown (a suburb of Boston). I got her autograph, and a couple of pics. She was very nice!

Sonny left us way too soon.

For what it worth, I saw them do it live on The David Letterman Show that night. It’s been a long time. I was young.

This is wonderful. I didn't realize till now that Cher is singing below Sonny! I'm not sure I've heard another man/woman combo do that.

She was and is such a condescending witch that it is obvious why he decided to ski into a tree.

A local Seattle talk show, Almost Live, started a campaign to make this happen, but Sonny and Cher decided to do it on Letterman.

Wonderful.

@LeeStrobel She lost her mind after breaking from sonny.
