The 3.5" floppy disk's 1.44MB capacity in 1992 could store ~1 page of genomic data. Today's DNA data storage (Church et al. 2016) can pack 215 petabytes in a single gram - equivalent to 150 million floppies. Nature's information density remains unmatched.

☕ Ready for a cup of "Not Joe"? Grab a mug, arm it with some freedom beans and start that day off right. 🇺🇸 #Trump Coffee:

Copying floppy disks was my favorite thing to do :) Some protections were pretty cool, like adding intentional bad sectors on it to recognize original media. I learned a lot :)

I am going to guess that the grand total of people who changed their decision to copy / not copy based on this "public service announcement" from 1992 through today, is somewhere around zero.

I would’ve thought this was cringe even back then 🫤

Fun fact: the advertising coy that created the following ad didn't license the song (ie. they pirated it)

One of my first jobs, in high school, was to copy software for the staff. I finished the years work the first week so I hadn't much to do anyway..
