🤖 China has launched a factory where robots build robots UBTECH Robotics has opened a “smart” factory in Liuzhou for the mass production of humanoid robots. Robots are already being used on the production line to help assemble other robots. The facility is designed to produce more than 10,000 humanoids a year, with a target rate of roughly one finished robot every 10 minutes. For now, it all looks like industrial automation. Skynet, please take a number and wait your turn.

Humanoid robots are starting to build humanoid robots. UBTECH just put a 14,000㎡ humanoid robot factory into operation in Liuzhou, China, with a designed takt time of one humanoid every 10 minutes and planned annual capacity in the tens of thousands. What’s interesting is that humanoid robots are already part of the production process. Cruzr Y1 and Y2 handle depalletizing, palletizing, material feeding and transport, using 3D vision to adapt to shifted boxes and changing pallet patterns. On the assembly side, Walker S2 and Cruzr are produced on the same line alongside cobots, autonomous logistics vehicles and assistive manipulators. The factory also has a 65㎡ automated warehouse capable of storing 112 humanoids, with AGVs, industrial robots and stacker cranes coordinated as one system. Before production, the factory was modeled 1:1 in Siemens Plant Simulation, covering workstations, racks and AGVs. Each robot gets its own SN, with components, batches, assembly parameters and inspection data tracked all the way to delivery. Humanoid robots are now entering automated manufacturing at the 10,000-unit scale. The next milestone may be when they can take part in enough of the assembly, testing and production process to truly build robots themselves.

A film with real aesthetic taste. 1X’s NEO humanoid robot factory in Hayward, California, spanning 58,000 square feet, has officially started operations. It’s highly vertically integrated: they manufacture their own motors (Revo2), battery packs, tendons, hands (22 degrees of freedom), structural components, and more, completely avoiding reliance on foreign supply chains. Founder Bernt said that 1X secured over 10,000 orders in just the first five days. The factory’s initial production target is 10,000 units per year, which means these orders are now being urgently manufactured. The goal is to reach 100,000 units in mass production by 2027. This ramp-up is driven by real market demand. 1X has already formed a strategic partnership with EQT, planning to deploy up to 10,000 NEO robots across EQT’s portfolio of over 300 companies between 2026 and 2030. So 1X already has at least 20,000 orders to fulfill, probably more. Honestly, if you don’t see news from them, it just means they’re heads-down busy delivering in the factory. First Figure, now 1X… California is turning into a real-life Westworld. Well, the pressure and expectations are back on Tesla again.

The First Manufacturer to Mass-Produce 5,000 Humanoid Robots AgiBOT rolled off its 5,000th humanoid robot (a Lingxi X2) today, marking a milestone for both the company and the humanoid robot industry as a whole: a significant step towards large-scale deployment in the real world. AgiBOT co-founder and CTO Peng Zhihui stated in a live said that these 5,000 units include the Yuanzheng series (1742), the Lingxi series (1846), and the Genie series (1412). These humanoid robots will be deployed in various settings, including scientific research, entertainment, shopping malls, factories, and warehouses. This also signals that AgiBOT has the capacity for mass production and is ready to meet future surges in customer demand. Its production partner, LingyiTech, was the main force behind the assembly of AgiBOT's 5,000 humanoid robots this year, and they are planning an automated production line with an annual capacity of 500,000 units. Next year will be a milestone year for humanoid robots, reaching 10,000 units annually. Including Tesla, 1X, UBTECH…

NEO robot achieves “almost human-like” hand dexterity The Norwegian-American startup 1X has demonstrated new capabilities of its humanoid robot NEO — it has learned to perform fine motor tasks at a level close to humans. The robot can assemble Lego, eat chips, play video games, screw in a light bulb, pick a grape, and carefully hold a wine glass. Previously, one of the biggest challenges for robots was handling small objects — they struggled to understand how much force was needed to grip them. NEO solves this problem with cable-driven actuators and a force-control system: each joint moves the finger while simultaneously measuring pressure. The developers believe these technologies could become an important step toward the creation of universal home robots.

I toured the only factory in America building humanoid robots from scratch. Last month, I got an exclusive first look at the facility making NEO— the humanoid robot launching into consumer homes later this year. It is the most vertically integrated humanoid robot factory in America. Every critical component is done in-house. CEO Bernt Børnich walked us through the full story: from building soapbox cars with his dad at age 11 to leading the only end-to-end humanoid robot factory in the United States. VP of Operations Vikram Kothari then took us inside the entire build process, where every motor, limb, circuit, and sensor comes together under one roof on a rapid four-week cycle from CAD to finished robot. Four Optimus robots. One factory floor. 🤖🏭 Walking, carrying, and working side by side — all at the same time. No teleoperation. No humans controlling every move. Just humanoid robots learning to work together in the real world. This isn’t one robot doing a demo anymore. The future is building the factory.
