Doing well, GPU computed physics pushed the limits wider

I'm currently replaying GTA 4 Where tf did we go so wrong? The worlds and the physics were SO insanely detailed. Now we get slop.

Calling that physics is a stretch at best.

Gaming died when game studios focused more on movie cutscene stories and graphics over gameplay and physics

PS3 era was the age of pushing physics. Current era is pushing unreal engine and not really caring about the rest sadly.

Didn't nvidia do a bait and switch with physx, basically dropping support and leaving everyone with having to make their own engine or just put up with it.

2008 was when games were made by straight White men. 2025 games are outsourced to Indians and women

You think these physics are good? The lack of mass, inertia, and impact. There is no structural integrity, no material consistency or modelling. The reason its not used is that it looks and acts like shit. Just like ragdoll physics. It looks like the joke it is. Get a clue

I made a game bymyself where you can absolutely wreck everything in sight! If interested there is demo on Steam now, game is called Rolla!

I remember being so hyped for this game when it just a "project" at LucasArts. Reading devblogs about this revolutionary new physics tech they had developed for a new Jedi game... Dude, I was like 13 at the time and so excited. Lol Good memories.

This really is one of those things that should have been the future but isn't. Remember seeing this and another Euphoria tech demo and thinking, "All games in the future is going to be this, open world and full GeoMod like in Red Faction!" Instead we got Unreal & RT slop...

"physics" show me what happens when you try to break these two pieces once more. you can see where it will happen. you will see the same shapes break over and over and over because its a tiny library of geometry instead of millions that are found in modern games.

As far as I know I think this game uses europha phisics engine. It also uses two other engines Havoc engine and DMM enige. The reason why people don't use europha now is its costly lisencing fee and very experienced devs who excell in mathematical application.

To "recreate" this in 2025, they would need 5x AAA studios crunching 24/7 for 3 years straight, $300mil , another 3 years of development hell and management changes and 3 frame generation technologies working at the same time to reach a smooth 60 FPS experience.

I hate gaming conversations because they just take words and group them with anything. The only words gamers know are graphics and physics

If you ran this thing on PhysX you would get 3 FPS with a 5090 (unfortunately)

Its a small thing, but one thing I love about Force Unleashed is that some surfaces deform when hit. So when you throw a stormtrooper into a metal wall, you'll leave a big ass dent in the steel, it's great.

Digital Molecular Matter was the shit and inspired young me to get into computer simulations (I took one physics class and realized I was doomed, lol)

Would you be interested in doing a history video on DMM? (Digital Molecular Matter -- the tech used in this game I believe). Whatever happened to them and their tech? I know I would be interested in *watching* said video. . .

Crysis had such physics a year prior. The levels of interaction with the environment still amazes me to this day.
