Replace it with a nice one 10x the acreage or a decent place at 20x the acreage? Of course I would.

Absolutely, then you can go tell city people how much you hate them for putting data centers on the farm land you sold them. It’s a win win situation, get rich and blame the city folk.

The harder thing would be finding enough replacement properties to 1031 into, but that’s an issue I’d be willing to figure out!

Fuck yes. I’m fourth generation and my great grandpa would haunt me if I turned down a billion dollars

Nope not for sale. Been in the family since 1866. Too many lifetimes were dedicated to building this. To sell it now would mean all those who struggled before me to build maintain & preserve it did so in vain. I'm in the slim minority who feel this way and I'm okay with that.

Sold! With that kind of money I can start a family farm somewhere else and have generational wealth

If I did sell to a data center, I would have it set up to sell conservation easements hours before the land closing in order to make sure they could not build a data center on the property.

Farm owned by ancestors since 1870. I would sell in an instant. If you really had an ethical quandry? Take the cash, and later pay an acre's worth of it to a bikie gang to beat the absolute shit out of the Chairman and CEO of the AI company. Karma and harmony restored.

Our 43 acre family farm is the last 40 acres in a section that butts up to a mega data center. We sold for $116,000 an acre. It’s going to be a data center. We can take the proceeds and buy 275 acres close buy. It’s a no brainer; I have 3 brothers and my parents and we all agreed it’s the best move for the family. It’s sad to think about it not being there anymore, but the bump up in land ups our income by 7, a no brainer…..

Sell it...at present rate we wont keep it anyway. See ya on the beach.

At my age its different than some 40 something caught in the cycle. Solar farms, data centers and wind farms are all something I see that degrades vales, divides people and stains the land. I have more respect for neighbors than to be a sell out. Greed destroys people. Be Kind.

Has always been a no, and after seeing rolling Central Ky farmland totally destroyed in neighboring counties, is an emphatic no now! The data centers, while they may prove to be a necessity, use so much water and energy, I would not even want them in our part of the state at all.

Watching farm land disappear to see houses going up is not good. Who will grow the food if we dont?

Not a farmer. And fuck no. I live in a semi-rural, waterfront area. All around they tear up trees, farmland, etc to put in shittily built 500k homes with no yard. And no one is buying. Whole new neighborhoods empty for years. Keep the land. Worth more than money.

We have been farming the same land since it was bought from the Creek Nation. If you offer me 200k an acre, then you would be the proud own of a farm.....

Assuming that’s USD. Would you and a couple of your friends be available to help move some farmland from Alberta, Canada to say Illinois this weekend? There’s currently 3’ of snow on it so if you could all bring snow shoes and some snow shovels that’d be great!

No, money can’t buy happiness. Do you love what you do??? is the question I’d throw back at you. Is there future generations that are going to take over the farm? if it’s a legacy farm, BIG NO. Now my husband might have a difference opinion on this I don’t know I married into agriculture. Every year is a different year of challenges.

Would sell it yesterday. Unless it was centennial plus… then I’d sell everything but the first 40 acre or something similar.

Would sell the land we have plans to sell one day anyway. That place is for our retirement. Would never sell the land around us or the home places.

No. Hang on to your land as long as you can. They're not making anymore land, and that's why they want yours.

I believe I would. Harder if family land but they left farms in Germany for a brighter future here. Why can’t I do the same? (For our area, your example is 8-10 times market)
