White students toss around Black baby doll at game—racially taunt Black girls volleyball players. "They stood up with a Black doll cheering, 'Oh! She's dead!' and 'It’s just another one!'" "After one of our players was injured," player's mom said. Students also wore all black — as a coordinated group even though their school colors are blue and gold. One student claimed the baby doll was for a school project. "I don't care if it was for class. You’re telling me out of all the dolls, y'all only pick the black dolls in the group," another mother said. "You're not gonna make it make sense... this is nothing other than disrespectful, other than humiliation, other than racial intimidation." The Florida High School Athletic Association said the situation is under review. The incident occurred during a varsity girls volleyball game at Fernandina Beach High School in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Posting first full length and credited video here to help raise awareness.

A high school volleyball player says she feels blindsided both on the court and inside the locker room after learning a transgender student was competing with girls and using the girls’ changing area. “All of us girls do our normal things. We get undressed, unconsciously trusting our friends next to us.” She says finding out days later changes how she views a space where she and her teammates expected privacy. “It feels as if our protection was just stripped away from us. And they don't care."

When I was in pro ball, even throwing in the mid 90s, I never did this. But I honestly think it’s one of the biggest things that’s going to help me get to 100 miles an hour. One of the most underrated ways to throw harder is to implement cross training. Now, cross training in terms of pitching just means you’ll be using something other than the baseball to throw. For example, you see Yamamoto in the big leagues right now. He attributes a lot of his velocity gains to javelin throwing, and he’s thrown the javelin for many, many years. There’s another pitcher who’s one of the best pitchers in college baseball right now in Japan who’s up to 102 miles an hour and attributes a lot of his success to throwing the volleyball and the volleyball teaching him how to move. For myself, I use a football to clean up my arm action. When you use different implements, it’ll give you a new stimulus. It can clean up a lot of the mechanics that you wouldn’t be able to with the baseball itself. For myself and my training to throw 100 miles an hour, I use all of these implements for my arm action. Now, I have a tendency of forearm flyout where my forearm flies out this way, and so I want to keep it a little bit more directed toward the plate. Some of the best ways to do this is to throw the javelin. Because to throw the javelin far, you can’t be flying out. You need to go straight through. The football as well needs to be straight through. Also, just hitting the volleyball. I love watching volleyball players hit the volleyball because the upper mechanics are so efficient. So if you feel stuck in your training, start incorporating cross training.

Traffic checkpoints are meant to check for licenses and impaired driving 🚦. But situations like this often spark debates about rights, ID, and police authority ⚖️. Moments like these show why it’s so important to actually understand the rules of the system you’re operating in 📚. Knowing what the law says, how enforcement works, and how these encounters play out can make a huge difference when you’re on the road 🛣️. Education changes how you move ✊.

For those of you tired of yet another AI-based IDE: Check out Traycer. It's a Visual Studio Code extension (free forever for anyone working on open-source repositories), and it does something different from everyone else. You write a high-level prompt outlining the changes you want to make to your codebase, and the extension generates a plan for you before you touch the code. (It reminds me of GitHub Copilot Workspaces.) You can review the plan, understand exactly the changes the extension will make to your code, and make any modifications. When you are ready, you execute the plan, and Traycer stages all of the changes so you have a new opportunity to review everything. Only then does Traycer apply the changes. This is ideal for large codebases where you'd rather study the changes the AI plans to make before they make it into your code. Look at the video I recorded to see how it works. Thanks to the Traycer team for collaborating with me on this post!

Announcing the latest release from Qodo: Modern engineering runs across hundreds of repos, dozens of teams, and AI that writes code faster than anyone can review it. Today, Qodo releases features built for these teams. - Cross Repo Review: Qodo now maps dependencies across your repos and catches breaking changes before they merge. A change to a shared SDK, API contract, or database schema no longer ships before anyone knows it broke something downstream. - Rules Miner: Qodo analyzes your PR review history, recurring comments, accepted vs. rejected suggestions, and reviewer patterns, and turns them into enforceable rules. The standards that lived in senior engineers' heads are now in the system. - Skill Review Standards: Skills are now a managed entity in Qodo, with visibility, governance controls, and per-skill analytics. The instructions encoding how your team builds software are visible to the people responsible for enforcing them. All of these features are now available in BETA. Sign up for a 14-day free trial.

Nick Saban says one of the biggest mistakes leaders make when their environment changes is sitting around complaining about the new rules, and says his philosophy was that complaining is actually a distraction to the solution, so you should always spend that energy figuring out how to adapt “You have to be flexible, number one. If you’re flexible, then you have a willingness to adapt. And I think your willingness to adapt is really, really important because things are changing.” “There’s a lot of changes that are ongoing that you have to adapt to. And I think that rather than complain about it, which a lot of people sit around and complain…” “Complaining is actually a distraction to the solution. I think that you’ve got to spend most of your time trying to figure out, ‘What is the solution? How can we adapt?’” “That’s the way we’ve tried to look at all these challenges, to try to improve the quality of the program that we have.”
