On September 9, 2026 (local time), Ukraine's special operations forces used long-range drones (primarily FP-1 models produced by Fire Point) to strike two natural gas condensate processing facilities in Russia's Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug: the Novy Urengoy Natural Gas Condensate Pretreatment Plant and the Provesky Condensate Processing Plant. This marked the first time Ukrainian forces had targeted energy facilities in the Arctic region. Novy Urengoy is approximately 2,800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border in a straight line. Ukrainian sources and the manufacturer claim the actual flight distance exceeded 3,000 kilometers (with some reports citing 3,200–3,300 kilometers), setting a new record for the farthest strike into Russian territory since the war began. The region was previously regarded by Russia as a relatively secure rear area and is one of Russia's primary natural gas production zones (accounting for about 80% of national output).
