A flexed (bowed) lead wrist is a swing style. It only suits a few, we only see it on a few. Within it there are different club face positions too with DJ and Rham opposite ends of the spectrum. It requires precise and intricate match-ups. I’m see most people who try it, get the club behind them to early or “react” to the face not “match up”. Many internet-gurus would have you believe that all you need to do is flex your wrist, shift and spin and you’ll be amazing. For the majority that’s totally not the case. Swing your own swing and don’t follow fashion. Golf historically has trends (drive your knees-Nicklaus’s, Stack n tilt etc). All have merit but they are not the only way to do it and often don’t work for the majority. Swing your own swing and don’t follow the sheep. 🐑

Every golfer in the world has 2 choices when he hits the golf ball…. Adduct your lead hip to initiate the takeaway (see Jackson Koivun)…. Abduct your reap hip to initiate the takeaway (see Bryson DeChambeau)… If you swing like Jackson that means your left shoulder flexed when you put both hands on the club… If you swing like Bryson that means your right shoulder flexed when you put both hands on the club…. The manner in which you secure the club and approach the ball is how you control how your body moves when you swing the golf club….

At the start of this year, Phil Mickelson had a crushing ball speed of 165mph. Within 2 months he upped that to high 170’s and topping over 180. That’s an incredible jump for a man in his 50’s! He puts it down to training with speed sticks and explains how he has to change his release the faster he gets. “What I do notice is as I speed the swing up, I have to change the release point of my golf swing. I use length to create the leverage that I want, so it takes a lot of pressure off. But, as I do that, I have to change where the release is. But if I speed up, when I get down to the ball the face will be open. So I have to feel like I’m releasing the club a little bit earlier.” Lefty is a master at going deep in explaining the technicals of the golf swing. They are both athletic movements that share the same traits. “Fast, but relaxed”. The whole thing is a great watch. If you just changed the football to a golf club, you’d be in business.

Understanding the body/swing connection is vital if you want to improve your tendencies. If your body isn’t capable of moving correctly, then you’ve no chance in your swing is the logic. Here’s a great couple of exercises for standing up or early extending in your swing from @jenniferfleischer Give her a follow as she has some quality stuff to help your issues. There’s no “right” way to swing. Only what’s right for the athlete. James Wood (Aerial): Light, bouncy jog → taller, extension-based swing → upper-half driven power Murakami (Terrestrial): Heavier, grounded jog → more flexion → hip-driven power Both top 5 in HRs. They just get there differently. You can see it before they even swing. The mistake? Coaching what you think it should look like… instead of what’s actually there. How many hitters like Wood get told to “use their legs more”?

Rory McIlroy was asked ahead of The Open if he agrees with the idea that “Trackman Golfers” don’t do well at Opens: “No, I wouldn't totally agree with that. I think that TrackMan or any launch monitor, it's a very useful tool. I think you can get too into the numbers, which then can be detrimental. I think, yeah, TrackMan can be very useful. It can be -- I think it can actually help you with the feel of your golf swing at times. “If you see a certain number on TrackMan, it gives you a feeling of what you need to do, so if you can sort of match up the number you see on the screen with a feel that you have in your golf swing, I actually think you can become more feel-based. “I use TrackMan a lot in season because I feel like it's hard to work on technical positions when you're just trying to manage your pattern through the course of the season. I use TrackMan where it's like, okay, my path's getting a little to the right, I've just got to feel like I swing more left. I’m going to show you two pitches that encompasses the Padres offense Notice the situation bases loaded no outs. First pitch is a nasty sweeper in a 2-1 count. You would hope Manny lays off but it’s nasty and he swings out of his shoes looking to do damage. Okay fine. Now second pitch it’s a full count. It’s now time to be a team player. You would hope Manny shortens up his swing to make it easier for himself to cover whatever is coming. Nope, swings out of shoes again and whiffs on a pitch that has a 10.4% whiff rate. This is a selfish swing to me and it lacks situational awareness especially for a veteran. Then you have Manny nodding his head like yeah you got me. Brother you got yourself out. The team approach is horrible. Sometimes it looks like they just go up there without a game plan. They don’t hunt pitches where they can do damage early or when it’s two strikes they don’t have a 2 strike approach. They have one mode and that’s just to swing and to swing often. Making little to no adjustments inside the same at bat.

How do you play the uphill lie? There are actually a couple of ways you can do this. You can go with or against the slope! 1: With the slope (great for longer clubs as they’re generally shallower into contact) - Ball position, normal or even slightly further forward - ⁠ spine angle, approximately perpendicular to the slope - ⁠ The ball will go really high so club up 2: Against the slope (I like this better for shorter irons as the swing is steeper and we’re looking for solid contact just like Karol) - ball position further back - ⁠ Lean on front leg - ⁠ The through swing will probably be more of a punch style because of the slope Which one would you do? If a Brown or Black man said something that was anti Semitic, or homophobic for example, both mainstream and social media would be AWASH with statements villifying them with demands for not only an apology, but most likely complete cancellation in every aspect of their lives.

With the announcement of Tiger Woods’ 7th back operation, I have to ask — is the modern golf swing setting up an entire generation of golfers for injury? That style with the feet planted, the vertical jump, and steep shoulders puts tremendous strain on the lower back. I know, because years ago I tried to “drop it under” like the modern pros — and it nearly ended my game. That injury led me back to the Classic Golf Swing — the one I was taught as a kid, the one that’s stood the test of time. It’s easier on my back, more natural on the body, and I can still hit the ball long and straight.
