She’s actually right. Numbers are made up. 2+2 actually rarely equals 4. Only very simplistically and surface level. Take a human that’s made up of thousands of different things…and even things like thoughts that can’t be quantified. “1 human” isnt really “1 human”… it’s just what we’ve decided to call it. Even 1 second is made up 1000 milliseconds. Just because we’ve assigned numbers to the world doesn’t mean the numbers actually exist. Aliens could be much more advanced and never heard of 1,2,3…

2+2=4 can be proven. If you insist it's false then you need to explain how every man made object around you came to be. That math was used to design and manufacture them. They would not exist if that math was not true.

She is absolutely correct in stating that our interpretation of mathematics is a subjective perspective. It's our method of quantifying and observing reality. Math is a tool. 2+2 does equal 4, but would an alien civiliation interpret math in the same way? Perhaps not.

The concept that the guy should have discussed is objective reality which refers to things happening outside of human choice. 2+2=4 whether people observe it or not. And then we take it a step further and say that a man is a man objectively and a woman is a woman objectively meaning they didn't choose to be men or women. They just are. I think historically, if people reject objective reality, they can also justify almost anything morally. They would say that there is no absolute right or wrong.

There are 6+6=12 eggs in my refrigerator with no one needing to observe them. The physical rules which result in stars existed with no one to see them. There’s no point talking to someone who wants to debate whether 2+2=4 is true.

If people spent half the effort and half the IQ points thinking about real problems instead of trying to come up with this stupidity, the world would be a much better place.
