Why do I have the largest collection of curated TV commercials surfaced by independent VHS recordings to train AI? Trillions of dollars went in to them. Millions of minds. All to hone a message in 30 seconds. Today and forever AI will do this in seconds. There is a wealth of wisdom to learn from all of them as a genre. The profound compression of human emotions. Regardless of something being sold, like below, coffee, we can train AI to understand humanity in ways no other medium could. I hear the grumbling from some that may say this is “human slip” perhaps but it is far better than the self hating nihilism of Reddit and the Internet. My AI models already know human goals with our being told. And I am just getting started. So, you hear about “alignment” problems from brilliant AI minds, with them down for a coffee and school them, you now know more than most of them.

Last night at around 11:30pm our officers spotted a group of males in the city centre, who were all wearing balaclavas and dark clothing, riding e-bikes and doing wheelies along the road. They all tried to evade us, but unlucky for them, we carried out an effective tactical response and caught them all quickly after. One rider was caught and arrested on Renshaw Street, which you can see in this video, and a second rider, and his passenger were arrested near Rodney Street. A knife was found at the scene and one of the males was in possession of £5,000. A subsequent search of a property linked to one of the suspects led to the discovery of an additional £3,000 in cash as well as cannabis. This work is all part of Operation Gears, which is our ongoing commitment to tackling dangerous, illegal and anti-social vehicle use across the region, making communities safer for residents, businesses and road users. I use AI constantly. My 4 and 6 year olds even attend an AI-focused school. I am intensely optimistic about our AI future. But one thing I will fight to protect and never let AI automate: human autonomy. AI risks becoming the "autocomplete for life"—telling you the next action, job, relationship, identity. We who are living through this AI transition will be tempted, in a way that is unprecedented in human history, to let machines substitute for our self-direction. Most cognitive offloading is a genuine human triumph: writing reduced memory demands, mechanical calculation relieved us from arithmetic computation, and GPS navigation eliminated spatial reasoning from wayfinding. Each freed cognitive capacity for higher-order thinking. As Alfred North Whitehead observed, civilization advances by “extending the number of important operations which we can perform without thinking about them.” But as AI systems enter the realm of deliberation itself, something fundamentally different happens. Instead of freeing cognitive capacity for higher-order thinking, AI risks doing the choosing for us. Each small delegation of choice will seem harmless, even natural. But together, the micro-abdications of judgment could habituate you–choice by choice, day by day–to passivity and dependence. It could erode your ability to choose for yourself, from matters as trivial as what to have for breakfast, to fundamental choices about how to live well. Thankfully, AI can clearly do the opposite as well: By making learning more efficient AI can free time for self-directed exploration; as a Socratic interlocutor, it can strengthen your capacity to deliberate; through the right kind of personalization, it can help you discover and develop your unique gifts, and to use them to live autonomously and well. Anthropic had 16 AI agents build a C compiler from scratch. 100k lines, compiles the Linux kernel, $20k, 2 weeks. To put that in perspective GCC took thousands of engineers over 37 years to build. (Granted from 1987 - however) One researcher and 16 AI agents just built a compiler that passes 99% of GCC's own torture test suite, compiles FFmpeg, Redis, PostgreSQL, QEMU and runs Doom. They say they "(mostly) walked away." But that "mostly" is doing heavy lifting. No human wrote code but the researcher constantly redesigned tests, built CI pipelines when agents broke each other's work, and created workarounds when all 16 agents got stuck on the same bug. The human role didn't disappear. It shifted from writing code to engineering the environment that lets AI write code. I don’t know how you could make the point AI is hitting a wall.
