25.9.2015 Music On Ibiza Closing Party 🖤

It was on this day in 2015 that Marco Carola gave Lee Walkers remix of DJ Deeon’s ‘Freak Like Me’ its debut spin🔈   The video above captures this moment which took place deep into the Saturday morning at Amnesia in Ibiza ⛅️   The video later went viral across social media and YouTube causing somewhat of an obsession with the track and bringing it track to new found fame. This at the time was a relatively new phenomenon, where a video taken in a club setting goes viral online resulting in chart topping success for the track being played within it. Something that we’re all too familiar with now.   Before long Lee Walkers remix was doing the rounds throughout the scene and beyond, having it in somewhat of a chokehold. It now stands as a defining track of that era or year at the very least.   Defected later went on to release two versions of the track, the ‘Lee Walker vs DJ Deon’ version, aswell as a more radio friendly version featuring Katy B who re-sung the vocals. The latter tending to be the version people are most familiar with now having racked up a staggering 50 million+ streams on Spotify alone 🤯   The real star within this track though is Tish Bailey who sang the vocals in DJ Deeon’s original 1996 version and is somewhat of an unsung hero. It recently transpired that she has never received any kind of credit or compensation for her contribution to the track, which is arguably what makes it so special.
