Steve Jobs famously described computers as "bicycles for the mind" in 1981, during an interview in his Apple office. He used this analogy to explain how computers could help people surpass their natural abilities. Jobs believed that humans are tool builders, and that computers could amplify our inherent abilities.  Jobs' analogy was featured in full-page ads for the Apple II, which were running around the same time as his interview. The ads helped to establish Jobs as the public face of Apple, and to promote the personal computer revolution.
