Seeing more of the industry starting to jump on the Bates train. Is #6 on our top 50 ‘24 HS Prospects list. #25 on our ‘24 Big Board. In a light prep SS class he stands out. 2B Henry Godbout (Virginia Baseball) is a college bat to keep a close eye on this season. Following a solid Freshman season—and an impressive showing in the Northwoods League—Godbout exploded last year to the tune of a .372/.472/.645 slash line with 18 2B, 9 HR, 47 RBIs and more BB (29) than Ks (20). Across a brief 9-game stint on the Cape, Godbout went 11-for-36 (.306) with 3 2B, 1 HR, and 9 RBIs. Athletic build at 6'2" and 190-lbs with some length in the lower-half and budding physicality. Fairly upright stance in the box with an open front side. High handset, hands start pretty far back. Minimal load, leg lift leads into a normal stride. Generates effortless plus bat speed, head stays quiet and level throughout his operation. Consistent quick and tight turns with his hips. Does a great job of working inside the baseball. Just a real hitterish look. Godbout's calling card is his hit tool. Pull-oriented approach, but will occasionally work to the opposite field. Hand eye coordination is outstanding. Highly advanced feel for the barrel that he pairs with plus (closer to a 70 than a 60) bat-to-ball skills and a polished approach. Ran a 92% overall IZ contact rate last spring, including 95% against FB, 91% against SL and 90% against CB. Feasts on heaters - contact rate against all FB was 95%. No issues with velo, either. Hit .556 against all FB 93+. Would stick a 60 on his hit tool. Godbout has some impact to the pull side, which is where all of his HR power (at least right now) comes from. Last year's Max EV of 106.4 doesn't necessarily jump off the page, but there's potentially more impact on the way and you're buying the hit tool. Raw power right now is a tick below average (avg. to pull side). Godbout is a strong defender at 2B, where he is a safe bet to stick professionally. C Cole Messina (@GamecockBasebll) is going to be a fun follow this spring. After playing sparingly as a true Freshman in 2022, Messina had a strong summer in the Northwoods League and hit .294/.410/.483 with 10 2B, 5 HR, and 40 RBIs. Proceeded to have a stellar Sophomore campaign, hitting .307/.428/.615 with 18 2B, 17 HR, and 65 RBIs in 62 games. Was a First Team All-SEC selection and a Third Team All-American. Thick, ultra-physical build at 6' and 230-lbs. Stands nearly upright in the box with a slightly open front side. Somewhat high handset, starts with the head of his bat pointed almost straight down behind his back shoulder. Small stride, gets his swing going with a bit of a barrel tip and without much of a load. Bat speed is plus. Messina has a pull-oriented approach and an above average feel for the barrel. Bat-to-ball skills are advanced, and in '23 he sported an overall IZ contact rate of 90% (90% against FB, 92% against SL). Sound pitch recognition skills and doesn't really expand the zone. Would put a 55 on the hit tool. His natural strength and physicality allows him to generate high-quality impact on a regular basis. Max EV in '23 was 108. Overall raw power is a 55, but a 60 to the pull side. There are some defensive question marks, but Messina is a sneaky athlete behind the dish. Moves well laterally. However, his overall catching skillset will need to become more polished. Very excited to watch OF Carson Benge (OSU Cowboy Baseball) this spring. Enjoyed an excellent first full season in 2023, hitting .345 with 17 2B, 7 HR, 43 RBI, and more BB (42) than K (32). Hit .345 with 4 RBI in a 9-game stint on the Cape. Wiry and athletic frame at 6'1", 184-pounds. Serious violence in his swing that is geared towards doing damage and getting the ball in the air. Plenty of hand speed, does a nice job consistently generating back spin. Impressive ability driving the baseball to all fields. Sound approach, above average bat-to-ball skills. Big barrel tip, but consistently on time and gets in a good position to hit. Absolutely pulverizes heaters - .529/.691/.824 slash line against FB 91+. Good athlete with a plus arm in RF that will allow him to stick at the position. Also has some experience on the mound where he showed feel to spin and a FB up to 96. Plays the game extremely hard and at one speed. It is abundantly clear that he loves to play! Potential top-2 round selection this July.

OF Trevor Condon (Tennessee Baseball) was one of my favorite position players I saw in Jupiter. Collected 7 hits (1 XBH) and 4 RBIs across 5 games. Slightly undersized, but there's some impact (mainly to the pull side) packed into his frame. Wiry, athletic build at 5'11" and 175-lbs. Prototypical top-of-the-order table setter. Explosive and twitchy operation in the box with no-doubt plus bat speed. Feel for the barrel is there, high-level bat-to-ball skills. Controlled the zone well with polished swing decisions in my looks last week. Does tend to hit the ball on the ground, would like to see more line drives. Hit-over-power profile with some PS thump. Gets out of the box unbelievably quick, turned in 70-grade run times. Condon's tantalizing combination of speed and athleticism translates well to centerfield. He can really go and get it and has plenty of range, but if he can shore up his routes (take a more efficient, crisp path to the baseball) he has a chance to become an impact defender. The intangibles with Condon are a nice cherry on top. Advanced baseball sense; stole 2nd on a great dirt ball read, swiped 3rd on a well-executed shuffle lead. Incredibly high motor, plays with his hair on fire. Does not take a pitch off! Always involved, brings the juice! Like the Energizer bunny. Kind of a throwback player in that sense - it's clear he LOVES to play! Think along the lines of Sal Frelick/Slater de Brun (SDB better defender at this point with more of a physical, barrel-chested look). Top 2-3 round type for me this July.

Syracuse 6’9 Big William Kyle III has been one of the most impressive prospects in the 2026 NBA Draft so far this season. Through his first three games Kyle is averaging 11/9/2 along with 1 SPG and 3 BPG. Kyle is also shooting 70% from the field. With a 44 inch vertical at 6’9 Kyle is one of the best athletes in the class and uses that to his full advantage on both ends. He’s extremely skilled as a rim runner and lob threat on the offensive end, he’s one one of the best in the class on that end. Kyle is also one of the best rim protectors and defenders in the class who can defend multiple positions at a high level while also protecting the rim at a high level using his size, wingspan, and athleticism. He’s also a high level rebounder and a skilled passer for his archetype who can find his open teammates and create 2nd chance plays for his team. Syracuse is off to a strong 3-0 start and Kyle has been one of the biggest reasons why with his impact on both ends. With multiple athletic rim running bigs getting drafted every year Kyle has the potential to be next in line

6’3 Guard Kashie Natt is having one of the best guard defensive seasons in college basketball history. For the season Natt is averaging 11/7/2 while shooting 49% from three. He’s also averaging 2.3 steals per game and 0.6 blocks per game in only 24 MPG. Natt is an elite athlete with an incredibly high motor and plays hard on both ends. He’s an elite POA defender who has great instincts as an off ball defender and is great at getting steals without fouling. Natt also protects the rim extremely well for his height using his athleticism and frame. On the offensive end Natt is a strong off ball player who’s elite at crashing the offensive glass, while also being an elite cutter who’s shooting 66% on cuts, and is a great spot up shooter who’s shooting 48% on catch and shoot threes. There’s not many players in college basketball at 6’3 with Natt’s mix of athleticism, frame, motor, off ball instincts, and defensive impact. Natt, Chris Manon, and Maliq Brown are the only 3 players since 2008 to have a STL% of 5, a BLK% of 2.5 and a TS% of 60.

St John’s Dylan Darling was one of the best glue guys in all of college basketball this season. The 6’1 Junior PG had a strong season where he averaged 7/3/3 along with 1.5 SPG in only 21 MPG. Darling was one of the best guard defenders in college basketball this season with his mix of instincts and motor. Darlings motor and ability to stay in front of anyone in the POA helped him be one of the most impactful defenders in the country, he’s also an impactful off ball defender with his ability to switch and read passing lanes for steals. On the offensive end Darling has high level passing vision and can find his teammates in the PNR or as a connective passer. He’s also a skilled scorer in the PNR who ranked in the 75th percentile with his mix of finishing and mid range scoring. Darling shot an impressive 60% at the rim this season while also having great pace as a PG who rarely turned the ball over. Darling also uses his ability to get steals to create a two way player on the other end. There’s not many players in college basketball with Darling’s mix of motor, defense, passing, finishing, and pace.

NEW: A 71-year-old Atlanta babysitter has been arrested for the Easter night murder of 3-year-old Armani Lyons, who was fatally shot in her care On Easter Sunday in Atlanta, 3-year-old Armani Lyons was shot and killed while under the care of his 71-year-old babysitter Barbara Edwards. His mother dropped him off at Edwards’ apartment before going to work at the airport. “I’m not gonna see him again—no more laughing, no more playing, no more nothing,” his mother said. “He was just a baby who never got to really live.” Armani died from a gunshot wound to the head at Grady Memorial Hospital. Edwards has been charged with felony murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and cruelty to children in the second degree. An arrest warrant has also been issued for Jermaine Hardeman, 35, who is currently on the run for the same charges.

OF Jaden Gustafson (Wichita State Baseball) is an under the radar name to keep tabs on this spring. Hit .296/.367/.403 last spring with 15 XBH and followed with an outstanding summer in the Jayhawk League in which he posted a .391/.439/.626 slash line with 11 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, 32 RBIs and 12 BB to just 2 Ks across 115 at-bats. Athletic frame at 6'3" and 215-lbs with particular strength in his lower-half. Stands upright in the box with a high handset and slightly open front side. Will drop/drift his hands a bit in his load, but Gustafson has plenty of hand speed. Small-strider. Compact operation in which he takes a relatively direct path to contact. Has shown the ability to adjust. Gustafson has double-plus bat-to-ball skills, and last season he posted an 87% overall contact rate and a 93% overall IZ contact rate (94% against FB). He also possesses advanced pitch recognition skills and swing decisions, and last year his overall chase rate was 24%. Very few swings outside of the shadow zone. Gustafson uses the entire field, but has a particular knack for going the opposite way. Barrel skills are also advanced. The most intriguing part about Gustafson in my eyes is his potential power upside. That might sound a little strange considering he has 0 collegiate HRs, but he's a strong kid with some present impact (90th EV of 103, Max of 104.3) and whose AirPull% last spring was a minuscule 7.7%. OF Jaden Gustafson (Wichita State Baseball) is an under the radar name to keep tabs on this spring. Hit .296/.367/.403 last spring with 15 XBH and followed with an outstanding summer in the Jayhawk League in which he posted a .391/.439/.626 slash line with 11 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, 32 RBIs and 12 BB to just 2 Ks across 115 at-bats. Athletic frame at 6'3" and 215-lbs with particular strength in his lower-half. Stands upright in the box with a high handset and slightly open front side. Will drop/drift his hands a bit in his load, but Gustafson has plenty of hand speed. Small-strider. Compact operation in which he takes a relatively direct path to contact. Has shown the ability to adjust. Gustafson has double-plus bat-to-ball skills, and last season he posted an 87% overall contact rate and a 93% overall IZ contact rate (94% against FB). He also possesses advanced pitch recognition skills and swing decisions, and last year his overall chase rate was 24%. Very few swings outside of the shadow zone. Gustafson uses the entire field, but has a particular knack for going the opposite way. Barrel skills are also advanced. The most intriguing part about Gustafson in my eyes is his potential power upside. That might sound a little strange considering he has 0 collegiate HRs, but he's a strong kid with some present impact (90th EV of 103, Max of 104.3) and whose AirPull% last spring was a minuscule 7.7%. #8 (D2) AWHS Baseball and Northern Lakes League rival #7 (D2) Clay Baseball had a wild back-and-forth contest where the Generals of AW came away a 10-7 victor over the Eagles, thanks to a 6-run bottom of the 6th. Facing one of the top arms in the state, AW Athletics busted out 12 hits (7 off of Ech) with 4 players recording multiple hits. '26 OF Eli Donawa went 2-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored.
