A $199 aluminum cube turns a Mac Mini into an 8TB 40Gbps editing station. The case slides under the Mini. Four feet. Two handles. One circular vent. Inside: a single M.2 slot. Samsung 990 PRO drops in. Cover screws shut. No tools beyond a screwdriver. Blackmagic reads 2844 MB/s write. 2881 MB/s read. Three USB-A ports at 10Gbps. SD/TF 4.0 card reader on top. Two DisplayPorts pushing 4K60 each. Camera card inserts. Drive mounts as SSD 4T. Footage lands. Timeline plays without stutter. Two monitors. One timeline. The cube sits quiet between keyboard and speaker. Surface temperature stays low enough that a thermal gun barely notices. The Mini stays clean. The storage stays external. The ports stay plentiful.

48TB of NVMe storage turns a Mac Mini into a local AI server. Six M.2 slots open. WD Black SN850X and Samsung 990 PRO drives lock in. Chassis seals. Copper heat pipes pull the load. CrystalDisk clocks 7,400 MB/s write. 41 GB lands in 6 seconds. Weights appear before the cursor finishes moving. Four 40Gbps ports daisy-chain for more capacity. Temperatures hold at 39°C under sustained inference. 4K streams and vector indexes share the same pipe. The enclosure sits next to the Mini. No rack. No rent. No cloud round-trip. Just 48TB of models ready at Thunderbolt speed.

136 TB in 1 desktop box, and the cloud subscription for that much space costs more per year than the box itself. Most creators run 2 separate setups. A slow archive drive for finished work, and a fast NVMe drive for the project open right now. Two boxes, two cables, two things to forget to back up. This ACASIS enclosure combines both in one 6-bay unit. SATA bays for the deep archive, NVMe for the timeline you are cutting today, and 40Gbps out the back so the fast half never waits on the connection. Plus software RAID. 136TB of raw capacity if you fill every bay. No more deciding which project gets the fast drive and which one gets the slow one. Archive and working files sit in the same enclosure. One cable, one backup.

16 terabytes per drive, mirrored in RAID, moving over 10 gigabit - that's what kills the cloud bill. 2 terabytes of iCloud rents for about $10 a month. Google Drive charges the same for the same 2. Neither copy is yours. 1 Synology drive is 16 terabytes. 8x the space, paid once. RAID is the safety layer. Every file gets duplicated across drives, so 1 dead drive costs you a drive, not a decade of photos. That's the exact promise the cloud charges rent for. 10 gigabit LAN is the speed layer. 200GB of footage to a cloud account is an overnight job. Over 10 gigabit it's minutes. Drop 1 SSD in as the working drive and active projects open at local speed - no sync, no download, no spinner. The software is the real reason Synology over a bare box. Web apps for files and backup. iOS and Android apps that auto-pull every photo and video off the phone and the tablet, same behavior as iCloud, none of the bill. Then the media layer. Movies. A full music library served to any device - the thing Spotify and Apple Music charge $12 a month to rent you. Put a second unit in another location and one backs up the other. Off-site redundancy, 0 monthly cost. 4 subscriptions gone. 1 box. Hardware that's paid off in a year and keeps working for 8 more. Stop paying iCloud and your photos go dark. The drive just spins.

APPLE CHARGES $200 TO GO FROM 256GB TO 512GB ON THE MAC MINI. $400 FOR 1TB. $600 FOR 2TB. AND YOU HAVE TO DECIDE BEFORE YOU BUY. Pick wrong and you're stuck forever. Apple soldered the storage shut. That's their entire business model. Sell the box cheap, charge a premium for every upgrade you can't do yourself. One dock just broke the whole system. The Acasis 8-in-1 plugs into the Mac Mini through a single Thunderbolt cable. Slide any NVMe SSD into the top. 2,819 MB/s write, 2,857 MB/s read. Faster than Apple's own base storage. A 2TB NVMe SSD costs about $100 on Amazon. Apple charges $600 for the same upgrade. That's a 6x markup for storage you could add yourself in 10 seconds. But it doesn't stop at storage. SD card reader, DisplayPort, USB ports, power delivery. Every port Apple left out, this dock puts back in. Surface temp under load: 26.7°C. Same aluminum finish. Sits right next to the Mac Mini like Apple designed it. That's when it clicks. The $599 Mac Mini was never the cheap option. It was the entry fee. The real cost was every upgrade Apple locked behind the checkout page. One $150 dock and a $100 SSD just replaced $600 worth of Apple tax. Still think you need the upgraded model?

In three-dimensional space the determinant of a matrix whose columns are three vectors equals the signed volume of the parallelepiped those vectors span; changing the middle column so the base parallelogram doubles in area while height stays fixed therefore yields a volume of two cubic units.

Same Mac. Same model. Same words. My 512 GB M3 Ultra ran GLM-5.3-Flash on MLX last week: 27 tok/s, first token in 0.46 s. Today it runs TensorFold 0.6.2: 61 tok/s, first token in 0.20 s. In the clip it laps the reply twice while the MLX side is still typing. Same reply, byte for byte. Then eight requests at once, 78 tok/s combined, every answer identical to its solo run. The old engine took one at a time. Context stays at 1,048,576 on the Mac. Every number measured on my own machine with the same probe, one week apart. Nothing estimated. Ash Hart built it. Apache 2.0.

Donovan Walton stays hot and hits a three-run homer to right. #Angels down 4-3 in the second. It's his third homer of the year. He's now hitting .343/.371/.522 in 23 games.

overdrive update: download speed depends a lot on the source. some do 50 MB/s, some barely 3 MB/s. overdrive will launch as it is now, with these mixed sources. some providers are just slow, so i can't promise download speeds on those. for later i'm thinking about building our own CDN on Cloudflare R2. it's just an idea for now. zero egress fees, and we could target 50 to 100 MB/s on good connections. a 50 GB game: 3 MB/s → ~4h 38min 50 MB/s → ~17min 100 MB/s → ~8min the catch: we've indexed ~55 TB, and storing that on R2 costs ~$825/month. i don't want overdrive to become a paid service. so the idea is to crowdfund it. $1, $5, whatever you're comfortable with. fully transparent. every invoice public, every expense tracked, no profit. overdrive stays free and open source either way. nobody will ever have to pay. would you chip in? and can the PS5 homebrew scene pull this off? (current sources in this video)

"I guess Conor McGregor worked the system when he beat Jose Aldo as quickly as he did, or Ronda Rousey, when she had three other finishes under 35 seconds, worked the system. The entire UFC/Ronda Rousey train was built on quick finishes. She was the biggest PPV star in the sport because of those quick finishes.” Nakisa Bidarian addresses criticism and scripting allegations surrounding Rousey x Carano.
