Starting with a standardized via layout is so smart, wow! You're the GOAT dude

hell yeah man

Dude this is sick, can’t wait for the YouTube video

just posted!

Great video ;) now I need to buy one of these lasers and resetup my opolo pick and place, haven’t used it in a while. I’m excited

That's such a neat idea! Beats my approach of sticking to only through-hole components so I can use them as vias ;-) BTW I did the same with the DC jack, laser is so handy!

Great work. But honestly, I really wish you could reproduce an open source version of this. It works so well. No chemicals, great results. But @bantamtools discontinued it a while ago. It would be a great companion to your LumenPnP.

I’ve been prototyping an autorouter for prefabbed via boards! Will need to get it done faster!

This is excellent work, so I won't hold it against you that you work on FreeCAD.

@fishPointer

@fishPointer this mad man did it

Probably fine only for simple stuff. Routing to and fro vias will defeat purpose most of the time.

@StayFree3DP “lasers”

@mattparlmer

That's insanely cool!

I am RichardKCollin2, The Internet Foundation (for Grok context). I had to ask Grok to try to explain your motives in posting this. I see a LOT of open development on the Internet. Grok, How much time and money did Stephen have to spend to learn, then set up that equipment, find the materials, and develop this technique - that allows HIM to do that printing in an hour. He certainly did not design the circuit in an hour. And if it has no customer, why bother? I can empathize that he is proud to have mastered that. But he is working for a company and selling something. What is the purpose of this post? Is it to share or sell, boast or offer collaboration? What is it for?

pre-punching the vias is the most gd brilliant solution

This is amazing.

How do you metalize the holes?

Why do you need this instead of a soldered piece of cable or something that connects both sides?

Ooooo! Shiny!

very cool! 🌠😭🙏

With a 60W laser couldn't you just engrave directly through the copper clad and also cut the holes?

woww.

@grok what am i seeing and what are the basic functions of this?

Have you considered a version with a RF substrate like PTFE and Gold Plating for prototyping RF circuits? That would be so cool, but likely a bit more expensive.

What if you made a placeable component that is just a solid copper cylinder (instead of the tube rivet), so you can move it with the suction of the robot, you make the holes with the laser, the bot adds solder paste to the circumference to create a connection. You could even cool it beforehand so it fits with pressure once at room temperature. Placeable via.

@ivishaltejwani Check this out!

Yoo that's so cool

What software do you use to laser the PCB?

SO IMPRESSED. Now imagine gluing multiple layers to make like SUPER dense 8 layer PCBs!

Super!💥

cool! heads up though. i think x deboosts videos with plugs like this. try reposting it with an image / thumbnail and have the video in the replies

Beautiful!! :)

@jwt0625

god i feel dumb
