Fill up a Miracle Grow sprayer 1/4 full of Dawn dish soap and spray the yard. I've been doing this for years. I have a large fenced in privacy back yard and do it in sections. Once it's covered I just start again. Doesn't kill the grass and keeps lice, fleas, spiders, ants and ticks from hanging around. Also helps to repel snakes and moles. Also spray the perimeter of the woods close to the cleared yard from time to time.

Rosemary is great. Get guinea fowl too. They are noisy and dumb but are great insect eaters. If you use sulfur dust works but not good for animals.

The best way to control ticks is control the rodent and deer populations. Reduce those populations and you reduce the tick population.
