£300? Taking the piss.

£300 is absolutely fare. He has the right to set the amount, especially given it’s a Sunday, it’s up to the client to say no. The work he’s done amounts to £200-£250 and he’s charged a little extra as it’s sunday. Nothing wrong with that

Clandestine's profile picture
Clandestine1 month ago

Are you shitting me? Sure why not make it £350

4949Undefeated's profile picture
4949Undefeated1 month ago

Is that your logic to everything? Why is a bus fare £1.50 when it could be £2? Why’s a meal deal £3.50 when it could be £4?

Clandestine's profile picture
Clandestine1 month ago

His overheads aren’t the same as a fucking bus company with millions of passengers per year, nor is he a restaurant. 🙄

Well done for introducing a completely irrelevant point

Clandestine's profile picture
Clandestine1 month ago

You brought the bus fare and meal deal into the conversation yourself. I’m simply pointing out why those comparisons don’t work. You can’t call a point “irrelevant” when it directly responds to the examples you used to make your argument. Are you on those tabs again?

It was a short notice / emergency call out. On a Sunday. With rubbish removal.

Clandestine's profile picture
Clandestine1 month ago

He actually said it wasn’t worth doing at that price, so how much did he want for a normal weekday job? And was that including his advertised 20% off? Then we can see how much extra the Sunday “emergency” premium actually was.

dick's profile picture

@Bozenka_2023 That’s irrelevant as it was agreed and the house would have been emptied if it had been me

Clandestine's profile picture
Clandestine1 month ago

@Bozenka_2023 Two sides to every story. But what I’d like to know is, was that 20% off added back onto the price? Because if it wasn’t, then that would be an even bigger piss take.

dick's profile picture

@Bozenka_2023 And again they could have said no lol surely the price was negotiated before the work was done?

@Bozenka_2023 I’m curious about that 20% off 😂

He literally said that he doesn't work Sunday's and that they called him out for an emergency service and he got what he asked for. Both parties happy, not sure what you didn't like about it.

You should pay the price you agree on. If afterward you think it wasn't a fair price then you don't use that contractor again.

Clandestine's profile picture

I’d be asking about that 20% off 😂

£200 Day rate + 50% additional charge for emergency fee = £300. If you think someone is going to work for minimum wage as a self employeed persons, you're the one having a laugh lmao They have to deduct all upkeep costs, disposal of waste etc from that £300

Clandestine's profile picture
Clandestine1 month ago

He’s charging nearly 24 times the minimum hourly wage if that £300 job took an hour. More fool you.

If you're willing to do it for less, i have a very bad garden that needs to be tended. Ofcourse you'll have to bring your own tools and mower. if not, then it seems to be a fair price no? It's all relative to how much you'd want to be paid to do it.

Clandestine's profile picture
Clandestine1 month ago

That’s the point. The “gardener” is providing a service, and that’s fine. But there’s a certain price, and then there’s fucking greed. Charging for your time, tools and work is fair, taking the piss with the price isn’t. And this is taking the piss.

Andrew's profile picture
Andrew1 month ago

@Nikolaja122 £40 per visit for commercial waste at my local council tip. should that not be included for taking waste away? No? Petrol for tools no? Petrol for the van no? Turning up on a Sunday should get charged more? No? Don't like the price go and rent the tools and do it yourself.

Clandestine's profile picture

@Nikolaja122 You’re right, luckily some old ladies can do it themselves. Like another poster said “Do it yourself, lazy” 🙄

Are you deaf? He didn’t want to do it so gave them a silly price that if they accepted, he couldn’t really turn down. That price was £300. They accepted it, so he done it. Pretty simple concept really.

Not 300 but 100-140 would be fair.

supply and demand, they wanted service on short notice on a sunday which incurred significant additional cost. he surely told them price in advance. they refused to pay it.

Clandestine's profile picture
Clandestine1 month ago

“Significant additional cost” because it was a Sunday? It’s gardening, not emergency surgery. There’s a fair price for a service, and then there’s taking the piss. Supply and demand doesn’t automatically make an excessive price reasonable. where’s the fucking water leak? 🙄

James Gammell's profile picture
James Gammell1 month ago

Yes, are you unfamiliar with the idea that people working sunday get and can charge more for their services. The person ringing you up at lidl gets it. you must also be unfamiliar with he idea that providing service on unusually short notice incurs additional charge, yet this is

James Gammell's profile picture

an incredibly common practice across contract fields. if you dont like the terms, dont hire them under them.

Well depends, if he said £300 and then he did the work and they agreed then it’s £300. If he never said nor they asked then they are both stupid parties, however they should have really asked before having the work done.

Let's say he did a 7 hour job on min wage, it would be about 90 quid. So let's say he pays himself 50% above minimum wage that's now around 150 quid and as it's a Sunday (his day off) and someone insisted he do it in a emergency, he charges double time. 300 quid. Sounds fair!

Clandestine's profile picture
Clandestine1 month ago

Will you give me £150 to screw in a light bulb for 2 hour work.

KT's profile picture

Observe the first 10 seconds of the video. That's a lot of foliage he put away plus he will take it away and dispose of it (I'm assuming) his badly edited video looked liked he did some mowing and weeding. Most probably did a lot more than that. 4 to 5 hours work id say.

Broke mindset, they are too useless to clean up their own yard so have outsourced it,they want it done as an emergency and on a Sunday.I would have told them £300 pay up then I will do the work, they either would or wouldn't pay.The price is not the issue the entitlement is.

Totally fair. The high price is to discourage people booking at a weekend when the lad wants a day off. I used to do the same as a freelance editor. Most people's "emergencies" disappear when it's a high price. Like me I'm sure he'd rather spend his weekend with his family.
