This holiday season, we partnered with four incredible community partners to support Houston and San Antonio. –Empower House served 100 families at the Annual Holiday Resource Fair in San Antonio. Through this event, families received essential health resources, vaccines, and holiday joy, including a photo with Santa and toys for kids. Learn more about their work at –Thrive Youth Center hosted an Annual Holiday Party to create a memorable evening for 60 young adults ages 18 to 24, featuring bowling, a catered dinner by a local chef, and holiday stockings in San Antonio. .World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and UNRWA are undertaking an integrated catch-up campaign in #Gaza to reach 44,000 children, who have been deprived of essential life-saving services by two years of conflict, with routine immunization, nutrition support and growth monitoring. The campaign started yesterday and runs until 18 November. Providing much needed health relief for so many children depends on the full respect of the ceasefire. This will ensure families, health professionals and other humanitarian workers can reach vaccination sites freely and safely. This encouraging moment must be capitalized on, to protect and promote the health of all people in Gaza.

THIS IS ETHNIC CLEANSING. It’s not a concept learned just in history books, it is now, it is live on your screens. No one can say they didn’t know. How can the world let this happen? The Sameer Project has been providing food and water in the North, donate: we will continue to operate in the North as long as we can. We listened to the people - they asked us for help to remain steadfast, to stay on their land. But now they are asking us for a different kind of help - for a chance at survival. Messages and pleas are pouring in. People need help with transportation South, with shelter, with basic necessities. Patients in hospitals are being prematurely discharged because of capacity, amputees with no wheelchairs out on the streets. Families are walking barefoot more than 13 miles / 21 kilometers with no belongings just to escape the bombs. How will they all leave? Who will take them South? Where will they all go? There is no land and no shelter. For the past month we have been preparing for this moment, at the same time hoping it never would come. The Sameer Project secured 4 more parcels of land, more tents for the land, and are working on making them suitable to move to with bathrooms, fencing, and electricity. But of course we cannot help everyone. With over 1 million people in the North we have to triage the most severe medical cases and vulnerable families. We are opening up a new fundraising link to assist. WE NEED YOUR HELP. Because of the scarcity of available resources everything is incredibly expensive: fuel for vehicles, renting trucks, tents, the land itself, food and water for the displaced. The essential needs are endless. We estimate that we will need $750,000 to open the additional camps and to aid in the response to the displacement. This includes rent of the land, land prep (ie, leveling soil), tents for families, fencing, bathrooms, water infrastructure, expansion of the medical point, expansion of the educational tent, transportation fees, and more. We need to provide water and food, medical services, mattresses and essentials, the list goes on. This is the biggest undertaking of The Sameer Project yet, but with your support we can have an immediate impact by providing a safe landing spot for hospital overflow patients, families with disabilities, orphans, the Civil Defense workers and ambulance drivers, mutual aid team members that serve their community - those who are vulnerable and those who will also be able to support others during this horrific time. We can source blankets inside of Gaza. They are available, but they are not free aid - they have been allowed in on commercial trucks by the occupation to be sold in markets, however, families cannot afford them. With your help, The Sameer Project can purchase them and distribute them for free to entire camps and areas that are particularly vulnerable and in need. We select camps to serve that get no other support. We select the areas that are the most disenfranchised, the poorest, the most in need. We give to all these families in one area so no one is left out, no one is “selected” over the other based on who they can reach out to on the internet for advocacy on their behalf. Instead, we support all of them to ensure equity and fair access to our aid. We are these families’ advocates. Here are 60 blankets going to the Al-Mutahabeen Camp in Khan Younis. We need more, we have to supply more blankets as temperatures continue to dip. Donate to our Return Home Campaign to be a part of our “Give Warmth to Gaza” initiative. Every day, every one, tries. They try so they can survive. Parents try to grow tomatoes beside their tents, but there is no water to keep them alive. Support now: They search for water, but the trucks run dry before everyone is served. After suffering extreme injuries to her shoulder, leg, and elbow from an airstrike targeting the Mosque she was praying in, Alaa came to the Refaat Alareer Camp for treatment and rehabilitation. The family evacuated South from Al Shifa Hospital during the land incursion in the North. She has been receiving daily wound cleanings and starting physiotherapy, as well as participating in camp events and school. But Alaa’s immune system is weak due to all her injuries and she recently came down with an infection that had her admitted to the hospital. But The Sameer Project’s care and support followed her there. We brought her a package of nutritions food to help with her healing, as well as some treats like nuts and pastries to lift her spirits. The cases that we support in the Refaat Alareer Camp would in any other situation, be inpatients in hospitals. The Refaat Alareer Camp is a medical camp, meaning we have criteria for the families that we bring in who have vulnerable conditions, chronic illnesses or injuries, so that we utilize our services and facilities to benefit those who need help the most. We have an onsite medical clinic that cares for our camp families, takes in patients from the area, and also fills medication and treatment requests we refer to them. Our team of nurses and doctors work diligently to host medical days to quell outbreaks of communicable diseases, provide nutritional support to hospital patients, and visit families in dire need who cannot afford even transport to see a doctor. They are heroes in a collapsing healthcare system. Our medical team recently held complete medical assessments for every resident in the camp. INSPECTION REPORT ON GULU REGIONAL REFERRAL HOSPITAL (GRRH) Today, I conducted an inspection visit to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital to assess service delivery, engage with the hospital’s top management and staff, and inspect ongoing infrastructure projects. A key area of concern was the staff housing project, for which UGX 6.229 billion was allocated in 2014 for the construction of 52 staff housing units. The project was initially scheduled for completion in 2017. Following disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, both the project cost and completion timeline were revised, with the new completion date set for March 2023. Regrettably, despite the significant public investment and the extension granted, there is currently no visible progress on the ground. This raises serious concerns regarding accountability and the management of public resources. I have since engaged the Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit Anti Corruption Unit - State House Uganda, who has assured me that they will provide an update on the current status of the matter, as the Unit has taken interest in the project. We look forward to a thorough investigation and appropriate action to ensure accountability for any misuse of government funds. On a positive note, I held productive discussions with the hospital’s top management and departmental heads and toured various sections of the facility. I am pleased to report that Gulu Regional Referral Hospital is doing tremendous work in delivering healthcare services despite the challenges it faces. I commend the management and staff for their commitment, dedication, and continued service to the people of Uganda. The Government remains committed to strengthening healthcare infrastructure, promoting accountability, and ensuring that every public resource is used for its intended purpose to improve service delivery. Then our team arrived carrying fresh bread. Children lifted their bags as we began placing fresh loaves into them, one after another.
